Newcomer and already stuck

Post by dartje »

Dear Community of Ryzom,

My ingame name is Gresin and im stuck.
The welcome mission asks me to harvest something that is only available (according to her) south of the village near the cliffs.
Too bad that when my wimpering forager is not capable of reaching south due to aggroing mobs. I cant change the mission to a fighting (or magic) mission so im a bit stuck.... Some help ?

If you have a dagger or magic amplifiers, kill some suckling yubos and such until you've got some fight or magic levels to defend yourself with.

If you don't, if you chose all three forage starter packs or something, just dig around the town a bit and sell everything you dig up to the NPC merchants until you have enough dappers (money) to buy a dagger. Then do the former. :)

Or, you could just keep trying to sneak down to the cliffs. Sneaking is a good skill to develop...

Not really, like I said you can learn to sneak. I got a level 11 character through one of the nastiest regions in the game, all it took was carefully watching where the aggro was, keeping an eye on the dots on the compass zoomed to 50m and keeping in mind that most aggro ranges are something like 20m, so a little less than half the radius of the compass at that zoom level. And a lot of patience and determination. :p

Foraging, crafting, and defensive magic/healing will give you HP (Constitution) and HP regeneration rate (Metabolism) upgrades, so eventually you can get a decent amount of HP without ever fighting or using offensive magic. I wouldn't recommend using Craft SP for anything but crafting plans, actions, and quality, though.

So theoretically you could avoid fighting and be a forager/crafter and/or defensive magician exclusively, just might be a bit challenging. :)

It is entirely possible to fullfill this mission without having to resort to attacking creatures; but it comes down to a player skill rather, sneaking. Keep an eye on the movement of animals, slip through while they don' t pay attention. Some of us are or can get pretty adept at that; but it is a lot of trai l and error at times, especially at the start.

Having said that, there is will always be a point where you' ll be open to attacks from dangerous carnivores. Building up some small skills in it so you can at least defend yourself ain' t really a bad idea. (but not forced) Always remember that Atys is a really dangerous place where we are still trying to re-establish our civilisations, so danger is bound to await behind the next rock or tree at some point.

some advice: dont do the harvesting missions on the island :p they are extremely difficult until you reach a bit higher level and can search a wider area..

not taking the mission will in no way negatively affect a future career as a digger, they are just there to get you used to things.

Dear Gresin

Do you like to tell us on which of the starter isles you are?
Maybe someone has a character there, that can help you. And that may give us an idea, how hard it will be for you, to get to the southern border of the map.

Makes sneaking a bit more challenging, because of the limited line of sight.
I suggest, you should train your physical prowess, before you start your journey to the very south of the island. If possible, try to buy a weapon, that does more damage than a dagger, preferable a two handed weapon. Observe at what distance the ragus and gingo see and attack you. That should help you to avoid them on your search for the beng amber.

(sorry I don't have a character on the Matis starter isle)
