Slow running

Post by martl »

I have a small problem when playing ryzom - my character is a slow runner.

i have no penalty on speed, and my bag is half empty (Does that influence running speed at all?), yet i cant keep up pace with my guildmates. This takes a lot of fun out of trekking :(

So what could the reason for that, are just some characters slower than others and i had bad luck when rolling mine? is it due to lag? can it be fixed? should i train more and dig less? :)

I'd love to know the answer to this question. My character runs faster than everyone with whom I've grouped, and I don't understand why.

I think its due to your PC. When I had my old PC, I found my char always ran the slowest, the PC was a good years old at that point, less than a gig of ram and a 1.8GHz processor and 128Mb Gforce GraCard.

However, when I got my new PC last August all that changed. I now get 60fps as opposed to 10fps and thats when running around big towns. I have 2Gb Ram, AMD 64bit 3800+ Processor and a very nice ATI x800xl (256Mb). As a result my char is now faster than most.

I think its dependant on your framerate, try lowering the graphics, running in first person (v) is also faster as your pc has less to process. I used first person a lot on trips to keep up in the past myself, can be a useful trick.

if you have framerate issues when running ... swap to first person mode... your PC won't have to render (did somoene say "rendor?") your character.... you'll get a much higher framerate and run faster as a result of which.

Weird thing is, when I played a year ago, I was always fastest runner in a group, but now I have returned, i have a better PC, but my running seems slower than others :(

ask nicely for the trek leader to run zoomed out, will slow them down so u can keep up :)

lowering things like farclip will help as well.

I have found tile near clip to be one of the biggest culprits,

however if you ever exceed the video ram on your video card, then your fps will plummet cause itll be offloaded to system ram and processor, i think, so try running at the 64 meg setting

oddly enough, on my system the 128 meg setting consumes 140-160 usually, and the 64 meg setting is usually about 90

60 fps? im gonna say BS to that, cause i have an amd 4000.... and on a regular day its around 35 fps, i hear similar numbers(mid to low 30s) from people with 3.4 GHz and above pentiums

Your running speed is very closely tied to your framerate, and can make for as much as a 25% difference in speed with a blazing fast computer versus like a pentium 3

Yeah I have all GFX set to max, thats probably the reason, couldn't do it on the old PC...ah well, at least while running slowly, I can admire how pretty the game looks on my new PC LOL! :D

Yah like I said, turn down tile near clip first, and/or find a way to check your Video Memory usage, most of the other things dont have a significant effect on frame rate

turning down the video mem helps you load alot faster when you port i think
but dont worry about using too much unless you end up using more than is on your video card, because this game bottlenecks at the processor not the video card
