Finding my way back.

Post by rajdsoft »

Greetings all you Ryzom players out there, old time beta player here that just found his way back to the game.

I was in the beta back in the days when Ryzom were still fresh, i liked the game back then but it was plagued with bugs (well of course it was, it was a beta!) And i got hooked on some other games when Ryzom went live (Daoc and recently GW) and now i've lost some interest in Daoc so i was looking around for new games and remembered Ryzom! So i read up on the patches and i found the outpost system!

One of the larger reasons Ryzom didn't interest me much was the lack of pvp.. Yes i know a game can still be fun without PvP but i like PvP alot (but only if both players feel the same, i hate griefing and such) but PvP is a big part of any MMORPG for me. I find it more challenging, mobs can only do whatever they are programmed to do while every player have their own playstyle and that adds alot to make combat more interesting.

I'm not all that much for RP'ing though i occasionally enjoy it if it's not too much. I enjoyed the Ryzom PvE more then i've enjoyed the PvE in most other MMORPG's and they've succeded with that quite good (although it seems it might be a bit of a grind, but the crafting system seems interesting and that might make it alot more interesting)

Now you might think, what is this post all about anyway? Well im simply wondering if the endgame is anything to go for, especially PvP wise. Because this game was originally an PvE game and trying to add PvP to a PvE game often fails horribly. Now i could just grind myself to the endgame and find out myself, spending lots of hours and money but i think it's easier to ask here, especially since the ryzom community easily seems to be the best one around (finally a forum without flamewars! there is a god!!)

;) So to sum it up (for all you who doesn't want to read my long rant) ;)

Is the endgame PvP anything to go for or does it have no purpose? Same with endgame population, are there actually enough players (the game doesn't seem to have all that many players, sadly) to keep pvp interesting or will you be fighting the same 10 people over and over and over again?

What do ya guys think? Is this game something for me?

umm enjoy the start game and the mid game to enjoy the end game maybes?

seems the pvp happy population has grindeded at it to the end so it might be a long way off before lone ranger rajdsoft makes a difference (other than healing)....

i dunno...guess ye could be double 250 in about 3/4 weeks and could kick some homins in the proveribials....

Thanks for the response, yeah sure of course i'll enjoy the start/mid game but i don't want it to be like WoW, start out fairly fun, then when halfway through the game ya realise the PvP at maxlvl is fairly worthless and all there is to do is grind instance after instance..

Hence why im asking before i start paying for the game... I'd like to hear the opinions of people that pvp often.. Outpost system seems cool and all but is it as fun as it sounds?

And yes to me PvP is a big part of how much i'll enjoy the game, for example DAoC, there the PvE sucked bigtime, it was so boring that i couldn't play for very long until i was about to rip my hair of my head.. that's how boring it was, i didn't get that feeling at all in this game though.. But when you got done with the PvE in DAoC you come to the PvP (or should i say RvR) which was so incredibly fun if you were playing with 7 friends.. To this date i haven't found any game as fun as that... GW comes close though.

Im not really expecting the Ryzom PvP to be as good as DAoC RvR but atleast a bit fun, so the game just doesn't end when you're maxed at 250...

For me, PvP isn't that much of a turn-on, Ive always liked PvE better. but for outposts, I make an exception. They actually give you a reason to PvP, a goal. Without those, I'd still be just another "carebear", killing some mobs and digging some mats.

There is no such thing as an endgame in Ryzom imho. There's always other skills to level, bosses to kill, equipment to craft. It's not so much the destination, but the voyage you should like. If you're just gonna grind to AoD and Master Sword to play PvP and be "uber", you may as well go play some shooter or something. Agreed, AoD and a master melee do give you advantages, but not having them doesn't exclude you.

I for example amd 241 ele and 146 melee. I have the 250 spells, and only lack a few credits, but I'm far from master mace. Yet I have fun and I can help my team by just slinging bombs around wherever I can. Basically, everyone can help in outposts, but for straight PvP, youre usually better off being a high lvl player.

To reiterate: enjoy the journey, because it never stops :p

hello ;)

well i've been having a lot of fun with it -) of the 4 op battles i've been involved in there have been 70+ ppl taking part, the hawks vs omegaV one a lot more i think. A lot of balancing has been done recently and while things can never be perfect its certainly plenty close enough.

There is a distinct lack of ganking, griefing and smack talk in ryzom - the odd occurance now and again by for the most part its done in good spirits and everyone has a good time.

one thing u can do is come along to an op battle and choose neutral that was u can judge for yourself and just be an observer. Coming soon (tm) are spire battles which take FvF fights to a new scale with sides vying (sp) for control of entire regions, so lots of good stuff -)

a few pics for u, this one was at a time when at least 50% of population was fast asleep :)

so the game just doesn't end when you're maxed at 250...
To max 250 in all skills you'd have to make 11,000+ levels. :P
Jelathnia, Kasarinia, KianShi, Maethro, ShuaLi, and OPaxie (Arispotle)
TeiJeng (Leanon)
