I rolled a fyros fighter but with harvesting and crafting packs. I envisaged building my own weapons and having the satisfaction of killing things with them. I've not been doing badly really, I've dabbled in harvesting, I've crafted my own boots and gloves and my own sword and shield, and I can make a little money from the Izams I kill around Pyr. I'm a level 28 fighter now, with 13 in crafting and 12 in harvesting. But I seem to be coming to a stand still. The level 16 izams that I can kill fairly swiftly are dropping level 16 loot that doesn't seem to give me much in the way of dapper. I've crafted a number of swords, mainly with the basic mats bought from the raw mat vendor when I could afford them. Most of those swords were pretty poor. I did manage to use some fine mats in the mix once, and crafted a much better than normal QL10 sword. That sword has lasted me like 20 levels of fighter. But at level 28 I think my damage output is really poor using a QL10 home made sword. I upped my crafting to allow me to make QL20 swords. I scrimped and saved to afford the level 25 mats from the vendor. I finally crafted a QL20 sword. Much to my surprise the QL10 sword seemed to have better properties, and still out-damages the QL20 sword! A kind mage enchanted the QL10 for me, and now it has cold damage properties too, if I can ever re-load the sap on it.
So here I am, doing poor damage, with a QL10 sword, nearly coming to my 30th level as a fighter. I haven't got hardly any armour to speak of, since I've spent most of my time saving for mats for me to craft swords. In a group, I've seen the mage at the back hit the monster for more damage with a spear than I am doing, as a frontline tank! This jars my confidence bigtime.
I can't seem to move away from killing the relatively easier stuff, just to supply my crafting/dapper habit. As soon as I move up, I seem to be out-damaged by the harder things, like the gingo's and those graul things. I was in battle, one on one, with a gingo and it was like he was regenerating health faster than my sword could dish out. A long battle that was won by the gingo simply because I ran out of stamina.
Another beef of mine is that harvesting seems to deliver so little dapper for the time taken, I can make the same easier thwacking easy kills and looting their bits. I trained my harvest up to get QL25 mats from the ground, but with agressive mining, I usually make the thing blow up in my face, and including the prospecting time, its a lot of effort for a single QL25 mat.
Perhaps I've taken on too many skills and am trying to be a jack of all trades? I'd like to hear other peoples experiences of surviving the game, because at the moment, I can't really see a way forward, other than lots more killing easy kills and looting, to gain the dapper to perhaps buy something off another player. I really wanted to be able to craft my own weapons and have a modicum of self sufficiency. I was majorly shocked that a weapon with higher quality had worse stats. I'm thinking of trying to gain a few levels in mage so I can at least enchant the weapons I make, to see if that helps with the damage output.
Any advice/help would be most appreciated.
Surviving?
Re: Surviving?
Once you lvl your harvester to lvl 30 and can get Q50 mats (mainland). Dappers start rolling in.
Do a lot of quests especially in your case kill and crafting quests. These give 2 important things: dappers and fame.
With more fame the things you buy will get cheaper. and the wares you sell give more profit.
Just to give you a little outlook: I am lvl 86 harvest, and various craft lvl >50. I can make 1.2 Mil dappers in roughly 5 hours by just doing quests.
