Reroling (Restarting) Characters (Errors you think you made)

Post by t41nt3d »

For anyone who has thought about, has done or is about to restart a character (I too am one thinking about it), I thought it'd be good for people to share their reasons for doing so. Thus other people can see where we went wrong and avoid the mistakes too. Also people thinking about restarting may find they dont need to afterall :)

My reason for restarting is I find I dont have enough health. When I think about it, I feel I wasted 40 skill points on "Metabolism" (I think thats how you spell it) and posibly another 40 on stamina regen, but I do use alot of stam so this might not be a bad thing. Health-wise though I could have done better, 150 extra hp and another level in Self Heal would give me 300 hp healing and 600 total hp rather than my 450hp and 200 healing. This just isnt enough to fing the Growling Gingos to up my xp efficiently, Hence why I will be restarting

Why restart? just choose Crafting or Magic as a pack, and use that to help level up your HP and Stamina.

I use Fight to level HP and Stam, and then Magic and Harvesting to get the regens up, i always have max HP/Stam/SAP and the 3 regens for my level, with full heals available.

Or maybe level 1hs instead of 2hs to get more points?

I understand your worries about having enough hitpoints, but I think its a balance, you have to have enough to survive a few rough rolls in the combat cycle, however, the main thrust of someone at the front as a fighter should be damage output. Especially if you are trying to solo these bigger nasty creatures. Hit hard and fast. If you want to tank in a group and be the damage soaker, then you'll need some more hitpoints, or a really good healing mage.

My problem with Tegana, is that I cannot seem to do enough damage, the more time in the battle, the more chance for loss of health, regen can help with that, but I'd rather be landing hard and heavy blows and finish the fight quick. With my current self crafted weapon though, I seem to be at a point where it just doesn't cut the mustard. I have the heal aura, which helps a bit, and a single self heal, but once thats gone, and I'm blowing most of my stamina, its just a matter of time before the creature eats away at my 300hp health bar.

I'm only a level 28 fighter, and I've not done too badly just ticking over on the equipment I built like 10 levels ago, but I really feel inadequate in combat when I just chip away - I need to work out how to do max damage in the shortest space of time. I'm not sure I'm up for a re-roll yet, but I feel your frustration.

I rerolled when i realized that i couldn't keep my stats and gear in sync with my levels.
I wasted a lot of skill points on things i didn't really have any use for.

Things are going much better this second time, i no longer have the constant pressure of having to keep up with myself.
I also have more skill points to use now since i started with 3 skills (Fight/Craft/Harvest) rather than 2 (Fight/Fight/Craft), wich in practice means that i use skillpoints from crafting and harvesting for HP and other, non-fighting specific, action upgrades. (I'm primarily a fighter, crafting to provide myself with gear.)

With my first character i got too many range fight crafting plans. Luckily that was still in OB so i knew not to do it again in release.

Since i optimized my plans to do quests, I have basicly everything else in crafting =P

Where you pull focus and focus regen from is on a basis of preference. Do you want to be a better crafter or a better harvester. I tried to balance it out.

As for the others. Well melee is for HP/Stam, magic for SAP no great knowledge in that =P.

Oh btw i started with 3x craft. So easy to gain 12 lvls in a matter of 10 minutes =)
