Who are the high-RP guilds?

Post by katriell »

I'm curious which guilds consider themselves high-RP. Not the ones that "play their roles" - the ones that actually roleplay.

The ones I know of are Samsara, Twilight Whispers, and Red Ribbon Army...are those correct? Also, is Red Ribbon Army Kamist or neutral?

I'd say we're not exactly high-rp in purest sense, and the rp level can vary tremendoysly depending on whatever we're doing etc. at the moment. Term high-RP can contain lots of different things, I come from UO and was there in high-RP guild at Catskills with lots of thees and thous and such

On the other hand we roleplay "pure" kamists with a certain wiev of world, other races, even "factions" inside the kami guilds. This might involve a bit of PvP or then not depending on circumstances (I left my PvP tag on during an attack to Yrkanis Karavan temple - just because I see as a fair play to be target for defensive action in such circumstance). As a whole I don't see that PvP is the same as roleplaying though, but in some contexts it can be a part of it.

Of course this is only how I see ourselves and our situation, others might give different comments

All the guilds you mentioned will do RP at times, but often the gameplay means that they drop-out out of RP. From experience two of those guilds they will RP in AROUND chat whilst talking about rl stuff in Guild or team chat.

You will also find that individuals will RP with you whether their guild is RP or not.

You have my deepest sympathy, people who speak like shakespearian rejects and call it rp have always made my skin crawl the other part sounds bette rthough.

Role play for me is just about assuming a way of being a set of rules on how who you are and how you react to things then sticking to them even if it doesnt always agree with what you want.

I admit I am personally the greatest destroyer of roleplayer in the dragonblades but well sometimes I just want to relax and be myself. I prefer roleplay out of guild chat and more in the around channel really. I like to be myself in guild but assume a role to the rest of aytss.

Hehe. yep it can be a pain to speak pidgin mid-english especially even if modern english isn't you native language either. On the other hand that kind of speech belongs to Ultima series (I started my Ultimas from Exodus at Commodore 64), and speaking in "olde english" fashion belonged IMHO even in UO.

As well as character concept - what are the crafts, magical and fighting skills this character will use. Of course with Ryzom the conceptualisation drifts a bit as every character is able to master any skill, given enough time and interest.

Well in us the setting was completely correct in a way, it just bugs me when I get people using it at me in a game set in say fuedal japan lol. And I've seen that problem with role play when you've got a guild thats got say 5 new members half of which don't have english as a first language its really hard to keep up role play and teach them how to play the game use the interface etc...

Well if I do role play which I havent really done for this char, I start with a basic set of emotions/ morality/ personality/ love/ fear for my character and try to let them decide what he should be although I have been known to decide to be say a magic user in a game first then build a character that fits into that.

Oh, now I understand what you mean with Shakespear rejects. Yeah, people who think RP is about over-dramatic language have simply missed the entire point of it all. They are to be pitied.

Well I wouldn't rush into conclusions here... It's not for a single person to determine who and when is to be pitied...

However if people use Ye olde english correctly and with style it can someimes be very beautiful...

I used to play UO too and though my native language is Russian LOL I really enjoyed the discourse with "Shakespearean rejects". I had a "wife" there and when she left the game I wrote her this:

Leave thine garments over yonder
Piled neatly on the floor
Thou art gone, but still I ponder
O'er the wealth we've shared before.

Light thine candle, leave it burning
Spread it's light to my domain.
Leave me craving, leave me yearning,
Leave... and never come again...

As for RP in Ryzom I try to be RP as much as possible in this game. I am the official bard in my guild (Order of the Nameless) and I agree with Soleca's defenition of RP as a set of rules combined with a unique playstyle. For me RP in ryzom means unswerving loyalty to my Guild, Honorable behavior towards others, never lifting a hand (amp, sword, muzzle (pick the right one) against other homin and writing as much poetry as I can to celebrate the magnificent world of Atys.

As it was said above RP in ryzom is more for individuals rather than guilds.

yeah, really i think any type of rp should be encouraged. there is precious little RP these days in RPG's. having said that it does seem a bit out of place in Ryzom. in a high fantasy game then lots of thee's and thou's and my fair ladies fits, i find it a lot more natural on atys to speak in a more modern way and stay within the bounds of my character and the lore thats available. but of course its really up to the individuals. if ur with a group of ppl and having fun i say rp any way u want to to :)
