One thing that will help when trying to track down new player info on these forums is changing the thread age cut-off. By default, the forums hide threads that are older than 30 days (i think that's the default). So a lot of older threads that contain great information don't show up for you.

To change this, go to http://www.ryzom.com/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions (make sure you're logged in first). To navigate to this page, go to the User Control Panel, which can be found in the pull-down menu at the bottom of the page labeled "Forum Jump".

Change the Default Thread Age Cut Off value to not filter older threads.

Other basics can be found here:

For the most part it's very basic and player made stuff here and on guild websites may be best bet.
