A noobs experience with the 7 day trial and questions

Post by alucias1 »

My first impression of the game was that this is something different and incredible. I love the feel of the world and how the mobs will just come up to look at you. The game is very quirky and I think thats what got me interested right from the begining.

I stayed on noob island probably longer than I should I have but I wanted to be sure I was ready for my next big step in the world. I only saw maybe one or two other people on noob island so im assuming that everyone must be on the main land. I was kind of mistaken. The game seems very empty. I figured it was just because of the times I play (I work third shift) so over the weekend I logged in at different times trying to test the waters and it was usually the same. Am I missing something?

I am no stranger to the grind. Infact I kind of like grinding my question here is what am I grinding for? Is there some end game instance or something? What is end game here? What am I trying to level for? The game, for all of its atmoshpere and coolness seems to have me feeling very lost.

So I am now a level 45 in fighting. I am not really sure what this means in way of my abilities. I seem to be able to kill things that have 4 stars in a blue square quite easily 5 stars kill me so fast its not even funny. Does this seem pretty accurate as to how it should be? I just don't know.

Do I have to craft? I know its an option but is this one of those options that I really need to take? I don't like to craft if I don't have to. Is it possible to have a combat only template and still make decent money?

To sum up my feelings after playing for 5 days I can do it in one word..lost. I feel like I have no focus as to what I am trying to do. I just keep going through the paces of grinding. The game feels empty and I feel kind of alone. It is a shame. I think this game has the best setting I have ever seen in any MMO. I love the whole stanza thing. Very inventive. Everything seems like it is place but I just can't find my own path or a reason to follow it.

Well population wise, yeah.. can depend on times you play, and where you play.

If you were to say play Matis after standard working hours in the US you'd prolly see loads of people around yrkanis.. If you were to say play in the morning as a Zorai in Zora.. well.. good luck :p

Grinding.. well you either like it or you don't.. They're targets such as Med quality and high quality plans along the line.. or racial shineys.. etc.. to build to which keeps most of us happy (and more to come)
I'd say crafting or digging at least as some point becomes a must do unless you're very popular or join a guild which doesn't mind giving you everything you'll need..

I'd suggest getting yourself on a trek if your Zorai though, or just starting a new char lol.. :p

Anywho.. Welcome and good luck! :D

I shared your opinion after my first week(s), alucias. "Why am I killing these mobs, why should I craft...?"

What changed it? The world itself I guess, overlooking a valley with raguses attacking bodocs while you try to determine the safest path through, to get to the harvest place.

Harvesting in dangerous lands are as close to "end game" I can think of at this moment. The game is not static though, at some point the outpost-patch will come and later maybe even a worldwide war. The goddess Jena is coming in her spaceship to take us from the planet before it is destroyed by "dragonfire". I hope.

Things like that.

bah, to each his own.. but idk - dont just grind, take the time to enjoy the world.. thats why your in it.

i really never thought of a 'why am i doing this' i always just knew that i felt "wow, this is so much fun, i love doing this, the world is beutfiul and the people are AWESOME" i didnt need any other reasons.. and still dont.

to me its.. 'gah i cant wait till i can prospect for 3 sources".. then its 5 sources.. or for 60m and 120 degrees.. or watever.. to me - bieng able to just hit 1 button and in seconds spawn a ton of sources is enough to keep me going.. i have a lot to learn before i can do that while having fun.. so i dont care about any end-games, its trying to show what i learned.. like in real life.. wheres the end-game in real life? is it when you finally finish education? when u start a career? when u die? who knows.. all i know is - i live it and i love it.

so hey, welcome to Atys, enjoy your stay, look me up, look up lots of ppl, yell in regional chat, or make a new fyros character just to mess around and meet people - then direct them to your zorai character (im assuming your a zorai b/c there are no ppl around you :) ) - theres ppl in fyros lands, any time of the day.

Welcome to Atys!

Another reason it has been fairly quiet the last few days is they just opened the Advanced test Server to everyone to look at Outposts. Quite a few people are playing on there atm.

I have to agree with Nightblade that there's more to this game than just gaining levels in whatever skills you choose to do. You can explore the world of Atys. You can chat to the helpful community you find on your travels. You can just sit and watch the creatures of Atys interacting, it's amazing to see. Thay all have their little habits and quirks. Don't just kill them, watch them. ;)

As for whether you should craft or not, the beauty of this game is you don't have to. You can do whatever you want. My only advice on that score would be it's the quickest and easiest way to make dapper. You can try it out and, if you find you don't enjoy it, just forget it, do something else. Do whatever you want.

My only other word of advice would be to join a guild. They'll help you find your path on Atys.

Once again welcome, I hope you enjoy it enough to stay. :D

Actually digging is a pretty fast way to riches. If you do not want to craft the items yourself. Many folks just figure if you have the mats you might as well craft them.

I think you can sell your mats nowadays for much more than the vendor will give you for your crafting result.

I believe that's correct. If I recall the merchants will pay more for materials than for the items crafted from them. Not to mention materials can usually be sold on to those who do want to craft, while most crafted items will be useless.

Harvesting is the best way to make dapper directly. Crafting is more a long term investment. It won't earn you anything until you're very good in it, and until then it will just cost you money.

It's probably possible to make a living without doing any harvesting, if you sell all the quartered materials you get from kills. You won't be very wealthy though.

Very true, mainly because you can get a lot more mats from harvesting than you will ever get from quartering. Consequently you can get more money from harvesting.

Untrue!

It all depends on the thing you're killing. The aggressive ones give alot more mats and you can kill them much more quickly then a forager can forage... provided you have a team, a healer and melee/elem is enough tho.

Second you can't run of for a moment when hunting to sell your material (no hawker near 90% of the time) because of your team. You have to split the gained material equally, even if you do get them faster then foraging.

And so a hunter is alot poorer in the dapper department. Cursesssss! *feels poor* :(

If you want to hunt for money, hunt for things that you can kill quickly and give lots of materials. You may sacrafice XP, but if you needed cash, you could clean house on lower level baddies and get lots and lots of materials.

Also, if you take missions, you can gain a lot of cash from delivering those materials. Most people totally skip missions though. At the lower levels I relied on them heavily for cash. Especially as I went solo for some time.

Even though I was guilded early I am a loaner deep down inside.
