Public apology to Xavier

Post by dazoo »

Xavier,

You had sent me a warning e-mail early this morning. My reply back was unjustified and immature. I have since sent another e-mail to you... if nothing else, please give it a quick read.

Sincerely,

Goofymonkey

To everyone else.

I think Xavier's intentions where good... just maybe fueled by a little emotion and haste. It was something that needed to be done. Just not as quickly as it was, and perhaps a bit more planned out. I have been just as guilty as of late for posting things I really shouldn't of. So please let this post serve also as my public apology to the community.

He made a mistake, admitted to it, and promised not to do it again.

Perhaps he is just as passionate (most likely more) about Ryzom as the rest of us are... I can understand how someone could make decisions hastily, thinking that they are the best decisions to follow through on at the time. I would also guess that if he had his way, he'd be joining Mr Peabody for a trip in the "Way Back Machine"

Can almost sense the tenseness and frustrations in his latests posts. I don't see a smile on his face any longer, just a frown, maybe a nervous tick, and patches of hair ripped out of his head. Or if he is lacking hair already, quite a few large dents in his forehead from banging it against the walls and kb.

Trying not to defend what was done, just thinking that if we can let things settle done a bit, give him a bit of peace and quiet, that he will make the right decisions on how to proceed.

Perhaps we can do a little forgive and forget real quick. It may be true that the forest fire was started by one, however, it'll take all of us to put it out.

There is one thing that I have noticed that does not sit well with me. Maybe I've missed it (no need to point it out to me if I have) but it seems that there is a lack of the normal moderators as of late. Where'd everyone go? Decide to let him cook on his own?

If ya mods are still out there, I do ask one favor. If the flaming, accusations, and other comments are going to flow in as I expect they will after people read this, can you just lock the thread and let Xavier delete it himself if it is deemed necassary?

Goofy

Thanks. Many thanks.

As everyone, I'm far from being perfect, and I keep learning from experience. That's one good example of a case where I learned, from you all. And thank you for that.

I can appreciate that anyone can make a mistake. What I'd like to see is an apology to the community for what happened and some move to remedy the situation by better clarification on the actions taken and revisiting the actions that were taken in haste and see if they were really warranted (prefereably by a less involved party).

It's good that the mistake was admitted and stated that it wouldn't happen in the future but for me that doesn't quite make up for it.

Right now, there seems to be confusion over who is really in charge of the forum moderation. Xavier isn't listed anywhere in the moderator list and by his own words, "I won't intervene at all in the community-specific forums." Now I realize roles and responsibilities between Nevrax and Jolt may have changed since that post, however, it'd be nice if we understood who was in charge of what.

Personally, I feel it makes most sense to have the forum moderation handled by the Jolt staff as they're less personally involved in the actual game development and are more likely to be able to view things objectively and not take things personally. This isn't meant as an insult to you, Xavier. It's just human nature to invest emotionally in a project you're working on, however, that can often be at odds with taking an impartial view.

See the Forum Leaders list for a complete list ;) Xavier is listed as an Administrator and a Community Liason; Admin is a built-in usergroup on vBulletin forums and (generally speaking) the members of that group have complete access and control over all the (sub-)forums.

Yes, and administrator and moderator are quite different roles. Just because he can do something does not mean he should do that thing.

Goofy
Could you tell me where he admitted it please? Could you also tell me if he has restored all the closed forum accounts to remedy his 'mistake'? It's obvious Xavier is not as up front as you are about an apology. I wonder if that lesson will be learned?
