Event Coming 10/3/04

Post by cerest »

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY

Elethar of Matis announces the first beatdown at the Matis Arena. He tells us this will be a fairly casual event, lots of free fighting and mingling with other races, a Smack Who You Please policy rather than anything organized. This will let our new crop of homins experience combat versus foes more dangerous than Yubos. The anarchy begins at 6PM EST on Sunday, October 3, 2004 in your "Earth Time." GM assistance with staying alive arrangements will be provided, but transportation is up to you.

One question i've been meaning to ask since beta, why the strict policy about GMs being unable to provide transportation to events? I understand the desire to preserve the challenge of travelling between areas or such, but if that's such a large concern, simply create an arena with no enterences/exits aside from GM teleporting and use that for GM events.

Honestly I think it's to keep down the tells to the GMs running the events. It becomes a real problem when 20 or 30 people are requesting teleports at the same time, mainly right before the event, makes it hard for the GMs to concentrate on the event and make it a success.

Why don't the just create a portal and turn it off when events aren't going, and back on when they are?

When they say Gm staying alive assistance will be provided, but transportation will be up to you. What do they mean by that? No free ports, but they will walk us there? I'm confusled...

Is this just a pvp type event for the Mantis?

It's an event for those able to make to the Matis Arena with purely player (or self) support. Gm's will be there to prevent death penalty for participation.

Currently trying my darnedest (once again) to get through Heretic's Hovel, and it's taking alot of patience....

Hello,

There are a couple reasons it is difficult to provide teleport assistance.

1. It could possible create a situation where *everyone* on the server would want a teleport to the event. That would create a chaos totally taking away from the event.

2. If they announced ports to the event for anyone asking, it would create a huge overload in the petition queue or in GM /tells.

We want to touch as many people as possible with events, but some events have to be run with a certain level of discretion.

You will find most, if not all, of the 'gladiator' style events will be announced ahead of time, allowing anyone to make it there in time for the event. Well, if you can survive the journey.

We are aware the Arena is in Matis and therefore this does seem to favor the Matis race on certain levels. You will probably see a large group of Mati s at any of these events. We are working on solutions to help solve the problem of not having easier access to an Arena type event. We are also looking into some possible solutions with 'duel' type PvP events.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Might I add that giving TP access to every player gives a great advantage to the players ported in that other players would not have: Free (no need to survive the journey and earn it) access to Matis teleport tickets. Matis would not benefit from this and it basically throws away the acheviement of any player who has made that journey.

If the arena were totaly isolated from the rest of the world then teleporting players would not create such an advantage/disadvantage situation. That being said, something needs to be done for each race to equalize the natural advantage of the Matis by their having the ONLY arena in Atys.

Whatever. Truth is Trykers can't get there anyways. In effect, we're blocked off from other races due to the brilliant way in which access to our lands has been organized.

Even if we did get through somehow, we don't have the ql equipment necessary to compete in pvp 'cause we don't have accessible Ql mats over 50.

Yay!
