Dear Yrkanis
Dear Yrkanis,
There have been awful things we homins have had to endure. You yourself have already had a lifetime's worth of hardship. This we know of your extremely recent history;
It was Leng, a Zoraï warrior and the father of Mabreka, who saved the life of the present Matis King Yrkanis in 2493 (and was killed in so doing).
Mabreka gave Yrkanis refuge in Zora in 2509 until 2512 and helped to muster an army to depose the ultra-Karavan monarchy of the totalitarian monarch Jinovich and install a more tolerant government. However, it would seem there is growing opposition against Yrkanis within his own kingdom. The Zoraïs remain vigilant.
[OOC: The above is taken from Ryzom.com. We didn't live through the events, but Yrkanis did. For reference, the game started in 2525 and Atys years are really short - 2 earth months]
Now you decide to tell homin to kill homin because a mystery space lady wants to kill an equally mysterious plant spirit.
At the recent conference, all you had to say was "thanks for coming, there's much to contemplate".
I smell a ragus. Has Yrkanis already been deposed? It's madness to think he would behave like he is if he was acting of his own volition.
From soul-brother of Mabreka and tolerant governer to religious fanatic and warmonger in such a short spell of time? I fear for the safety of the real Yrkanis.

Re: Dear Yrkanis
I agree wholeheartedly my friend.
Something is rotten in the state of Matis (And Zorai for that matter). Even Wyler and Dexton seem a little... militant given what we know of their pasts.

Re: Dear Yrkanis
Our governments do not wish our civilisations to be victims of the victorious other side so will fight for their values under the banner which fostered and protected them, so at the conclusion of the conflict the civilisations way of life perseveres, and is free to forge a destiney of its choosing, with the support of its great ally.
To use half hearted language at the start of a conflict is folly, they are assured of their faith, of their destiny, of their vision of the nation. It is that which they and those loyal to faith and country express.
There can be no progress or a conclusion to the kitin menace with two powers the opposite of each other, yet we require atleast one to defeat the Kitin. To not force a conclusion condemns hominkind to continued endurance and suffering as we know it, without an end. For the sake of whatever future you wish you must fight for it, otherwise it won't happen. Unless of course you enjoy the hardships and toil of our current state. I like many wish a better future and will seek it.

Re: Dear Yrkanis
We are refugees and live where we live now because the power of the karavan and the kami combined couldn't defeat the kitin!
The best they could do was hold them back and help us with an escape route!
Now all four leaders are acting weird. (I mentioned Yrkanis only because his actions are the most obviously, jarringly our of character from what we know about him). Not only are they acting in a way that seems like they are crazy or possessed, they are acting with the precise aim of either the kami or the karavan being destroyed.
If the combined might of the kami and karavan could do no more than hold back the kitin Swarming while we found a hole to hide in, helping those two factions destroy each other on the say-so of leaders who appear to suddenly be out of their minds doesn't seem the best plan in the world.
Yrkanis has been a respected leader - respected not only by the Matis, but by the other three races too. Now he is literally acting like he is not in control of his own actions. (The same can be said for Mabreka, Dexton and Wyler.)
Everything points to some sort of madness or posession or blackmail. Ignoring this and tramping off to kill each other because the crazy guy says so? Shouldn't we be trying to rescue the real Yrkanis instead?

Re: Dear Yrkanis
You know the King does not want this war.
All His Majesy said was that there was "much to contemplate"
The vast majority of the Tryker and Matis guilds are only reluctantly taking up arms in preparation of our own defense.
We do not wish to "show the Kami follower the price of heresy."
We would happily live and let live, were it not for the raging bloodthirst of many of the Kami followers.
We have already seen how the members of Ma-Duk's death cult will take homin life wherever they can. That they will be even more aggressive as a Ma-Duk sanctioned war ensues is assured.
Faced with this wave of Kami holy warriors, even if friendly to the official governments in the past, the King has little choice but to mount a proper defence of his lands and people.

Re: Dear Yrkanis
As a Matis I fully agree with the action King Yrkanis is taking. It seems logical to me that although he is not a harsh leader he is a sensible one. He knows he has to show strength in this situation, and although war is never wanted in any situation, I agree with his senitments that it is nessecary to rid the world of this demon who calls himself Ma-Duk.
Long live the King!

I should correct you on this the Kami, Karavan and even Tryton evacuated as many homins as they could (the swarming occured in just days). After it was only the Karavan that waged war on the Kitin to allow us to return from exile. So yes the Karavan does have the potential, but the Kami seen unwilling.
A few more points about our leaders:
Dexton - Brave, confident, proud, disdains physical weakness, primes honor above all, has no pity for his victims and is not usually troubled by tender feelings (except for his mother).
Yrkanis - Magnanimous, true to his word, loyal to his followers and Jena.
- Possesses courteous qualities appropriate to high-birth : prowess of a fighting man, steadfastness, loyalty, constancy in his undertakings, and is honorable in behavior and speech.
- Has a methodical, logical mind, cannot bear disorder.
Wyler - He is a Tryker of action and conviction, forthright, unbending and sure-footed.
- A born leader and inspirer of men, proud, brash, tenacious, combative, though sometimes boyishly impetuous.
Mabreka - Of strenuous moral virtue, is faithful to his god (Ma-Duk) and his duty (to promote Kami enlightenment).
- Superior but not haughty, though strong-willed, he has a strong presence of mind and knows how to bide his time. He knows that harboring Yrkanis, for example, will bring him merit later as Yrkanis would be more tolerant to the Kamis than would Jinovitch.
From these excerpts, peace would not last long. Much as it did not in the wars that occured after the exile, but this war is not over trade or lands, but the very future of Homins.

Re: Dear Yrkanis
If only we could get a wedding between a kami and a karavan, then the "parents" (Ma-Duk and Jena) would have to be more tolerant and no fighting would happen.

Re: Dear Yrkanis
I wished it was like that. We Trykers have such a multifaceted political situation. It really makes me sad and it tears me apart. I have been always a proud Tryker and i know whats going on in our governors head. I wished he would have chosen truth above political gamesmanship this time.tylarth wrote: Wyler - He is a Tryker of action and conviction, forthright, unbending and sure-footed.

Re: Dear Yrkanis
Even if I agree that putting four homins with the traits you describe in a room would result in arguments, that isn't the situation here. The four we're talking about all know each other. Some of them have formed friendships. They've lived together for years through ordeals so great that their bonds must run deep.
Just considering the Yrkanis-Mabreka case, Yrkanis owes his throne to Mabreka and indeed his very life to the sacrifice of Mabreka's father. Yrkanis wasn't the sort of man to whom things like that mean nothing.
Steadfastness - deep, personal friendship seems to mean nothing to him now.
Loyalty - his actions suddenly only show loyalty to himself, no longer to his subjects or friends.
Constancy - the very root of my worry is he has suddenly become profoundly inconsistent
Honourable - anyone can be honourable in speech, the sudden lack of the firt three traits above don't seem to show honour in his current behaviour.
Logical - he hasn't given us any clue as to how he is acting logically (of course, there could be a logical reason he hasn't told us). Blind faith is the opposite of logic.
I agree with everything you wrote.
The Yrkanis we see on Atys right now isn't the Yrkanis I remember nor the Yrkanis you describe. That's why the only logical thing to think is that Yrkanis has already been deposed or possessed or blackmailed or threatened or lost his mind.
I would have expected anyone who respected Yrkanis to at least be a tad concerned at what has happened to him. I want Yrkanis back on the throne in the Verdant Heights, with all his qualities that you described so well, not this unknown puppet. Would it be the first time a usurper has made a play for the Matisian throne through underhand means?
I fear for the safety of the real Yrkanis.
