One week in and I've made some blunders in character development.

Post by webbear »

Well I think I've learned enough over the past week to re-roll my character and develop him with some sort of idea about what I'm doing.

I think my biggest blunder was wasting 50 skill points on getting a starting crafting stanza so I could make ammo for a pistol that turned out to be a load of old poo!

So. Tonight I'm gonna reroll. There's one thing I'm wondering though. If I make a magician / melee / crafter would I need to take the magician part as the first level in generation to get acid. I don't wanna go through all the healing to get levels stuff.

I'm stuck at work at the moment so I can't check it out.

If you want Magic/Craft/Melee, take 2* Magic and 1* Craft; you'll get Acid 1 with the Medium Magic Pack. Saves you the healing ;)

Am I right in thinking that you get a melee stanza by default then?

@webbear:

You seem to be a straigthforward person to an extent I have not encountered before on this board.

fight3 is your pack - definitely!

There is no reason to take any fight packs at all. That is, if you want to level magic at all.

I started with 3 magic packs. Leveled fight to buy basci harvest, leveled harvest to buy basic craft. Magic is expensive (until one of the major patches at least) so if you wanna do magic, take at least 2 magic packs.

Just my opinion. :)

Well, if my "straightforward" thinking is right then ...

2 x Magic
1 x Craft

And that will enable me to fight with melee weapons too. Is that correct?

Yes! I'm lvl 21 melee fight atm all with my magic staff. Get a real weapon and it works as well. :D

Yes. (This is also the reason why melee packs are complete waste of time)

One note, though - if you want to solo as mage I would strongly recommend getting 3 magic packs - with the 3rd you'll get fear & root, which you'll need for soloing. Those spells are worth around 90 SP together. Crafting start costs you 50 SP.

Meaning: you save SP this way. (Now, that is - this could change with patch 1 in some weeks).

Excellent piece of advice there shrike and thanks.
