Homins, I bring you tidings of social movements within the walls of Pyr, where the Lord Aenan and Lady Cedon organise a night-time ball for all those who wish to practice their steps in the social-dance of the upper circles
The notice of this evening shines with promise of uncompleted stories:
The Lord and Lady Aenan and Cedon Apocaps humbly request the pleasure of your company at a ball in honour of the Ladys birthday,
to be held in the Pyr imperial Grand Hall on Saturday the 30th of July at 8pm BST.
R.S.V.P.
Homins, heed my words!

I most humbly accept the invitation to your ball, in honour of her Ladyship. I may even tempt his Lordship to gift the dear Ladyship with an exquisite garment or two, made by my own hand.

I regret to inform you that I will be unable to attend the birthday ball in Pyr as personal matters demand that I appear else where at that time. Please accept my humble apologies along with my best wishes for the day.
With deepest regard, Sanz.

An invite for me? I'm honoured after the misunderstanding involving the antique amber plates that went missing during the Intendants ball. Not many people know that dancing is good training for hand to hand combat (although no substitute for the real thing of course). I'll be there to whisk the ladies of Pyr off their feet.

As time pass we grow in wisdom and in age,
years that pass by like a book's page.
Words spread out of a great ball,
Homins come gather in Pyr hall.
From now until the mornings light,
there be joy and laughter throughout the night.
Let us move together in a lovely dance,
enjoy the times of this happy glance.
So much laughter and joy it brings,
when we together of great deed sings.
So my friends take your time and have much fun,
and remember it has all just begun.
I am so sorry to tell you that I cannot attend to these lovely festivities as I am to leave for a journey and will not be back for some time. Yet I wish to hear all about this when I return.
To the lovely hosts I give you all my best of wishes.
A report has reached me from an anonymous member of the Samsara...
When Lord Aenon and Lady Cedon Apocaps made an open invitation to the great and the good of Atys to celebrate the Lady's birthday the last thing we were expecting was to have to investigate a murder.
However, that's what happened.
I suppose we Samsara had put in enough effort at the behest of the intendent and acquitted ourselves well enough on the demands of the Emperor that we too received the invitation but the airs and graces of the 'noble' set - an attitude far more usual in Matis than Pyr, instantly set our teeth on edge.
From the Tryker butler (surely a demeaning position to a people that were once slaves) through the flirtatious Lord, the jealous Lady, the shrill Lady Caun and some Matis hussy who remains in my mind only as cleavage, the party was full of 'characters', not least of all a tight-lipped zorai hunter-to-order.
Exposed to the arrogance and prejudice of the upper classes, even in Pyr, bastion of the imperial republic, we were not particularly inclined to be worried too much about the death of one of their number, even the Lady Caun of Tryker who was, apparently, murdered with some manner of poison. More than one of our number was heard to mutter 'good riddance' at the news.
However, there was soon the mention of reward and that got or investigative juices flowing. After intensive questioning of each of the suspects we eventually managed to hedge a confession of sorts out of Lady Cedon who had hired the Zorai hunter to kill Caun to protect her and her husband's reputation.
Still, the important thing was the reward and that we were the ones to pocket it. Four million dappers and a goodly quantity of kitin larva to share between our group - the most difficult to find crafting material on all of Atys. Not bad for a day's work, don't you think? You people should pay these social soirees more attention; it's surprising what you can pick up.
Well, there you go, there's your story, where's my free drink? Pay for it myself? Fat chance, that reward was earned by the guild, it stays for the guild.
Firewine please, nothing too posh, high society leaves a bad taste in my mouth...
Sad to say I missed the ball as I had started celebrating earlier in the day toasting the Lord and Lady with a very good year of firewine. My drinking buddy, my faithful mount Metilda, well one of us must of took a wrong turn somewhere between Yrkansis and Pyr......not sure.........., and we ended up somehow in Fairhaven. I don't remember much of the journey so don't ask me how the heck we ended up there.
Murder you say, you sure you guys didn't serve the poor Lady Caun some bad Stingna Rum or Firewine at the ball. My head still hurts from the pub night in Thesos, not to mention everything has a blue haze to it....although that could be from the firewine I downed last night....and we might have broke into that flask of stinga rum Jyudas loaned me.
