ATTENTION Trykers: Let's Elect Our Own Generals!

Post by riveit »

Trykers are freedom-loving individualistic homins, but they know how to band together for the protection of the community. An Assembly of Trykers occasionally meets on the slopes above Fairhaven to debate the great issues that face the Lakelands. Riveit has stood to address to the Assembly of Trykers:

Greetings fellow Trykers! I wish to speak of the recent Kitin raid and our response to it. I was only able to see the early part of the battle due to being knocked unconscious. However, what I saw did not speak well of our organization! Our Governor has grown lax. He sits in his mansion fondling Matis gifts and ordering the best jewels, while our individual warriors go out and fight without direction. I saw a mass of unorganized homins spread out over a long beach, individually going in and fighting a Kitin. It was sheer ineffectual chaos. The whole of what I saw was healers landing, healing people to avoid a non-existent death penalty, and getting cut down, then needing rezzes themselves. I heard that we needed to be saved by foreign fighters. We can do much better! We need to organize! Generals should be elected. They can organize the line of battle. Guild teams should be arranged to line up in a predetermined order. So each knows his spot and we can hold a line against the Kitin, protecting our spell casters. The Kitin raid in the Fount will surely not be the last but was likely a small probe of our defenses. I propose that we nominate and elect several experienced generals, covering different time slots, with a chain of command of replacement commanders. What say you Trykers? Our Governor has grown senile and out of touch. Shall we elect our own war leaders?

Please follow this post with nominations for Eu and NA generals.

For one i think the Generals and Governor are part of the offical story line, since they reacted to our council call, 2nd i dont think it would be a wise idea to elect Generals and Governors since we have about 7 different time zones the ppl will need to be online in, so if 'the best' ppl for the 'job' are not in your time zone are you not allowed a say because you'll never get to chat with them only threw emails. Maybe you should just listen to your leader and consider it best what they do after all they are the leaders for the reason. You should show your leader respect! Governor Wyler has been threw a lot and didnt just 'fall' into leadership i suggest you go and read up on his history before commiting treason.

We could elect enough generals to cover all populated timezones. I see no reason to leave all the governance to Still Wyler and whatever crony he selects. He may have done miracles in the past but his leadership is failing now. The lack of leadership at the Fount was an excellent example. We can do better with our own planning.

Should we blindly follow whatever leader is set in front of us? Should we use ineffective and inane tactics against the kitins and wait for foreign powermagickers to save us? Is it treason to question the the competence of one's leaders? Are we not free Trykers? Do we not have a say in our own governance? Have we fallen so low since the days of Loria? If the time has come where we are accused of treason and thrown in chains for speaking out, then we are truly slaves again! If that it what has become of the free homins of the Lakelands, I might as well go to Verdant Heights and lick Matis boots ... or worship those wise Zorai who brought slavery back to Atys.

Second time I hear Zorais being called slavers, still don't remember seeing anything officially on it.

There's a brief mention of this on the Tryker profile.
Zoraï : The Zoraïs are not to be trusted, they openly breach Jena Law by venerating the Kamis. What's more, during the Great Swarming in the old lands, the Zoraïs refused to let us through their great wall and let many thousands of Trykers perish in the jaws of the kitins. More recently, it was the Zoraïs who first installed slavery in the new lands.

Ghuiss's strip club features free cute trykerettes only.

No trykers were harmed making this post :o

Also being a resident of Fairhaven, Ghuiss thinks Riveit makes a fine suggestion. Elect a government, have a police force. do some random pvp XD oups.

Side note. its far harder keeping interest and keeping other interested in the game than it is to how can i put this "grind" to awesomeness. Thanks for suggesting something fresh Mr Riveit.

Who can i vote for hehe, that miss atyss is a bit too big for her boots, that sxar would be to bouncy, dalin might start drinking. ghuiss votes for psylo :D

I don't think electing Generals is going to work myself, but i'm open to being convinced otherwise.

In the recent raid we found that some well placed /tells to people soon had a good force slaughtering patrols. The organisation of these homin went as well as you can expect as there is always a homin or two who are impatient and want to order everyone around. However I dont think even the elected title of General is going to help convince these people to be patient and listen to what everyone else (or the General) is saying.

Most Tryker i've meet are happy to follow a leader for a while as long as they appear to know what they are doing. Said leader seems to get almost spontaneously selected based on reputation and experience. Although this is not necessarily going to be the most direct method of organisation it is the most flexible and works for Tryker who tend to be awake at chaotically random times of the day (too much enjoying the good life me thinks ;) .

I know no Tryker who wouldn't answer the call to defend their homeland if called and able. I think as long as we make an effort to communicate (OOC: I mean IG with /tells and region shout outs) any news and/or threats then I think the election of Generals might not be a necessary step.

But as I said I have no strong views on your General idea Riveit and I culd be convinced that they are a good idea.

OOC:
What happens during an event when there are many Generals around?
What happens during an event when there are no Generals around?
More importantly what happens to Generals when there is an events drought as has happend previously? Without events I expect Generals will soon fade to away as an idea.

All good points, Turke! I hope only to get the Tryker thinking about defense and better prepared for the next raid. If a general is selected spontaneously that may be well and good, but shouldn't we be able to choose generals more wisely by calm discussion and deep reflection before the Kitins attack, rather than in the heat of battle, while the vermin are overrunning our lands, or worse yet, attacking our towns and endangering our very families (OOC: Don't forget that future raids will extend right into towns according to the patch notes.)

I hope that generals will determine whether dp's apply and restrain Trykers from needless acts on that basis. I hope that they will formulate plans and strategies for repelling attacks and wiping out kitin. I propose that guild teams be lined up alphetically by guild from left to right and hold sections of a battle front. Doubtless more experienced Trykers than I can come up with more tactical advice to prepare.

I have heard the following potential nominees discussed: Sxarlet, Dalin, Psylo, Frydeswinde, Pero and Gywidion
What happens during an event when there are many Generals around?
They could be ranked in some way.
What happens during an event when there are no Generals around?
The same as what happens now.
More importantly what happens to Generals when there is an events drought as has happened previously? Without events I expect Generals will soon fade to away as an idea.
Possibly it would be an empty title in that situation. One doesn't have to think long however before happening upon some potential uses. :)
