What was planned, what we got

Post by dam23 »

In this thread dated September the 26th of 2004 one could read the following:
Satchi wrote: Patch One includes:

* Player Vendors (NPCs you can offer your goods for sale through)
* Theme Music
* Magician Glove
* Mounts for the GMs
* Tuning and balance for magic users – less expensive spells, a refund for certain spells, will need to redo some purchases & stanzas to adjust.
* The world becomes a more dangerous place. Creatures have their own agendas. Be careful. They just got a bit better organized!

Patch One is heading to the Advanced Test Server (ATS) soon... 1-2 weeks after landing on the advanced test server – Patch One goes live!

Patch Two is scheduled to follow one month later (Note: might be 5 weeks)

Patch Two includes:

* The Encyclopedia
* Quests will begin to appear
* Rewards are revamped (special items… cool stuff)
* In Game extra Chat channels (please give us feedback on what is needed other than AUCTION)
* Player Mounts
* More Story elements…. (no spoilers… good stuff though!)
* You will start to see some divergence among the races abilities. (big hint here)

What we have, as of now, June 2005:

Patch One:
Player vendors: check
Theme Music: check , even though there is no ambient music
Magician Gloves: check
Mounts for the GMs: check
Tunic and balance for magic users: check
World becomes more dangerous: check

Patch Two:
Encyclopedia: check
Quests: does this refer to the Rites? if yes, partially implemented as of now.
Rewards are revamped: special items, cool stuff... ? not that I have seen. The special rite stanzas are imo no good (timer based ones, basic npc craft plans...)
In Game Extra Chat channels: no new channels, too bad, an AUCTION one would indeed rock, but I guess there is a reason it wasnt implemented
Player Mounts: check
More Story elements: check
Divergence among the races abilities: None that I am aware of. There are just no stanzas one race can use and not the others.

Not too bad imo, they implemented a good deal of what they intended to.
I'm really looking forward to seeing racial differences someday, aswell as the new User Interface and the Outposts :)

I think they did a fair job on the rite rewards. To me they are good alternative means of progressing your character to simply leveling, and make the encyclopedia a somewhat satisfying gameplay element. I am a bit disappointed by the unfolding of the story in chapter 2 so far however. Hopefully things will be better as promised in David's letters soon and the chapter will conclude with an exciting event.

Sadly, current rites are for lower lvl characters and finishing them with lvl 150-250 character does not give much satisfaction for difficulty or reward. Foraging and crafting rites are rather insane unless done in team and many do not know that rites can be done in team.

Oh, I like them. They are not very hard, but the consume a lot of time.
Last one I did kept me running through Winds of Muse for some time. Took me a whole evening to get the rite. So a whole evening without a level, but had fun all the time.

Btw, good post Dam. Lot of stuff is getting ingame so it seems. Good to read that.

Well the latest batch were for lv100 players so maybe they are working their way up? I think they are a lot of fun.. It can be good to do them not using ur highest skill as well.. my hunting bawaabs went a bit wrong with lv28 ranged and an autolauncher i can tell u ;)

That was kind of point I was trying to make that those rites may seem worse than they actually are if accomplished using skills far above intended level. I guess that my choice of words was not optimal :)

Rushin, did you actually manage to kill a bewaab with level 28 autolauncher and ammo that you can carry?

Yep, it's more than possible.. You have to remember that launchers and autolaunchers are meant to be seige weapons, so the ideal useage is in a town under seige with easy access to packers/apartment/guild hall with pre-crafted ammo. I took along Zeeka IV, my trusty purple starred packer. Took out the first few bawaabs np, then was a bit careless and hit one in a herd with a stray bullet.. they soon showed me how very far from optimal my tactics were ;)

Should add my ranged skill is level 28, the autolauncher was a shiny supreme one of much higher level.

This is the pre patch1 list. A lot of the major features are still missing.

I believe that your hit percantage suffers from using too complex weapons for your lvl :)
