Creative Director's Letter to the Players

Post by lawrence »

Creative Director David Cohen has posted a new letter to the community. This time, he talks about in-game events and their effect on the gameworld.

That's great and all...

But that information really should be available from towncriers or community message boards in game.

I remember the olde days of yore, were one would bathe in news from ye towncriers and elderly ladies.

(Excuse my bad old English :p )

Bulletin boards would be a nice addition to the game. Not an uncommon thing in text MMO's BTW. :)

Yay! SoR has come of age! For those who decided to hold unto their faith that SoR will become the game that we all hope that it would become this is great news indeed. The announcement of R2 worried some of us old timers who feared that SoR would suffer "brain drain" as resources and talent would be refocused for the expansion.

We have been eager to see the new event tools be brought into play. We had some false starts but I hope that the kinks have been worked out. The old event section has been lively lately with the rumors of a Karavan-Kami conflict (wait... weren't there these insect-like creatures we were supposed to be fighting??).

The announcement of a special "roleplaying/story arc" website is a mixed blessing. Yes, we need something for those who are new to the game to be brought "up to speed" or for those of us who participate in life outside of the game (an old wive's tale of woe I assure you!) and the Lore pages and Beginner pages are only a primer. But the story shouldn't be told outside of the game exclusively. We have hundreds of NPC's (and counting!) roaming the lands of Atys that look at us dumbfoundedly as we approach them and say /hiha. A few mention my name, which is really cool but when I return they forget that we've spoken before. NPC's would make excellent vessels for this information. We are first greeted to the refugee island by a welcomer. We seek the welcomer when we reach the mainland (okay, after a quick visit to the barman).

Just wanted to beat this dead mektoub one more time.
As far as new content, story arcs, multi-layered events, plots, and player actions affecting the world... BRING IT ON!!

aye another website and forums to keep track of is a liitle daunting.
It'll be great to have the story and its evolution all in one place though! I do hope its a different type of bulletin board for the discussions. ie something like http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/network ... ances.html
where we can comment after the article would be interesting. But an ingame newsletter/bulletin board would be the best imo. :)
