Crafting Face-off [player event]

Post by systemv »

Quick and Dirty:

Type: Competition
When: Sunday June 19th @ 2:00pm EDT , 6:00pm GMT , 7:00pm BST
Where: TBA
Length: 1-1.5 hours (maybe less)
----------------------------

The Competition

This is a crafting competition but hunters are welcome to come and will almost definitely be required to help a team win this event. Teams will be formed at the event.

The objective is to dress up a naked homin in medium or heavy armor or even a mix of both using ONLY materials found in that region. There is a time limit of 30 mins; incomplete sets are eligible but will certainly lose points.

There will be 3 judges grading the set by the following criteria:
  • Aesthetic(150 points) – How good it looks on the model. There will only be one model so as not to sway the judges. The model’s race/sex will only be revealed at the time of the event. Each judge will rate the set from 1-50, the sum of the 3 is your score.
The following categories are based on each individual piece of the set. If an item is above the max level for the region it will not be counted for any of the categories(be careful if using excellent or supreme mats from bosses – set your crafting level accordingly).
  • Quality(60 points)
    1. Item is at max Q for the region = 10
    2. Item is less than max Q for the region = 5
  • Grade(60 points)
    1. Basic = 1
    2. Fine = 3
    3. Choice = 5
    4. Excellent = 7
    5. Supreme = 10
  • Type(60 points)
    1. Low Quality = 5
    2. Medium Quality = 7
    3. High Quality = 10
  • Bonus(6 points)
    1. Having any bonus added to the item(hp/sap/stam/focus) = 1
Total Possible: 336 points

The region for the event will not be given until the day of the event(the GMs will broadcast it with the event announcement). I will, however, give the continent location a day before the event so people that need to get TPs can prepare.

Give me some feedback. Does this appeal to you crafters out there that wanted a crafting event? Give me ideas on prizes, I don't think dappers will cut it this time as crafters are usually rich :) Do you think more categories should be judged?

Finally I need volunteers to be judges. Let me know here or in-game.

PS. Spread the word!

First question that sprang to mind after reading this was how to stop a team using pre harvested mats? We all have stockpiles stashed somewhere or other. I realise that the location could help slightly there but anyone with stockpiled supreme mats and the relevant crafting plan could make a set in seconds. (armour items might already be stockpiled as well)

I do like the idea of the event and will hopefully be around to take part, just want it to be as fair as possible :)

I think it will all be based on this thing called fair play.
Turn it around: someone cheating can never win.

Yes, unfortunately there isn't much I can do about that and just hope you guys can police yourselves to a certain extent. I've tried to make things difficult to pre-plan a set as much as possible but there's always those folks who want to ruin everyone else's fun. Besides, if a team wants to waste their stockpiled sup mats on a player event then they probably have more issues than just being a cheater :)

Other things you may run into and which I'm actually hoping for:

- Racing another team to kill a boss / ninja looting
- Bargaining with teams for mats
- Alliances forming
- Rivalries forming
- Someone dragging aggro over to rival harvesters/hunters (allowed)
- Some DP
- Raku having to tank
- Soma saying "pretty!" (causing armageddon as we know it)

Seriously, this can be more exciting than it sounds :D

sounds good :) suggestions:

cheating:
i think that most if not all who enter would be abiding by the rules, but some things u could do to minimise temptation:
* hold event in a lv50 region, might discourage people from burning their higher level stockpiled mats.
* teams have to show the mats to judges before they craft to verify are from region

prizes:
supreme boss/pr mats, or a packer full of grind mats ;)

this sounds interesting. The lvl 50 area is a good idea, since most taht have all the plans needed won't have mats from that area. one question though.

Does fully outfitting them include jewelry? plus, there is the fact that does that +1 for a bonus count for the whole set, or does it count for each individiual piece?

The problem I just noticed is that if you don't have that race's crafting, you are kinda S.O.L. Would encourage some of the higher guys, though. A packer full of lvl 250 grind mats? *drools at the prospect* But at the same time, it would encourage the low-bies. Heh, could do it like the fighting contest. best of each land, goes on to the best of their race's faction (kami/Karavan), and eventualy to the best in the world. Have to up the requirements for each successive contest, though.

Could definatly be fun!

Ahh but you see there is where the strategy lies. You can use fine mats to craft other race plans and make a very eye appealing combo that the judges may award you for in the aesthetic category(the one with the most points) but take a hit in the grade category. I'll tell you right now doing a straight set with no variations in medium/heavy/color/type will hurt you when it comes time to judge. We want original designs not just any set :)

And no, jewelry is not part of the set but I am debating about making some point values for weapons since you brought that up.

The bonus is per armor item.

Mats as prizes sounds like a great idea ;)

Keep the feedback coming :)

Like a GP of crafting. First in all lands and a grand finale in the roots ;)

oooh oooh a GP style event sounds even better and a packer full of supreme/boss mats for the overall winner, round winners get a packer of grind mats ql 200+, 2nd place ql 150-190, 3rd place 100-140 maybe? 10pts for a win, 6pts for 2nd, 3pts for third place...........

Maybe even limit team size to 3 just to add that added spice for aggro areas....

An idea from the "show the judge the mats first" maybe add a specific mob mat that has to be included in the plan. This shouldnt influence colour too much so each team could still produce variations for the judging
