Before leaving newbie island...

Post by hastings »

I'm up to level 21 in fight and would like some suggestions as to what I should do before leaving newbie island.

How many dappers should I have on hand?
Armor type/quality?
Weapons?
Other resources?

I guess I'm really asking, just how big and bad is the world beyond? Esp. since I/we can't outrun the nasties.

After experiencing mainland. I would recomend staying in newbie land til you are level 40. The monsters are harder and harvesting for resources other than the one that spawns next to your hometown is next to impossible. There just isn't enough resources to go around. You should have at least 110k dapples to pay for your meklouk pack animal so it can be used to store your stuff when you get to mainland. If you are doing crafting missions it is way easier to do them on newbie isle.

IMHO it's pretty subjective. You'll have a lot of people telling you that you should really wait until you're in your 30s for fighting before you go, and also tell you that you should have over 60K dapper on hand, and the best equipment you can get your hands on before you leave.

My opinion is go when you want to go. Yes it's more difficult to harvest, etc, but it's not impossible. Every main city has enough lower level mobs around it that it's not that difficult to get caught up. As far as equipment goes, ql25 equipment sold in the main cities isn't all that bad, and you can always buy them one piece at a time.

Learn what mobs aggro and which ones don't. You may have to incrue a death penalty to figure it out, but once you know, it makes it all the more easier to avoid them  The biggest thing to take note of is on the mainland, higher level mobs (aggressive to boot) are MUCH closer to the cities. The levels will be a little bit of a jump from 20s to higher, but it's not undoable.

If you plan on going to solo, wait until you're in your 30s and make sure you have a good set of armor and a good ql20-25 weapon (some are able to make q30 IF you can harvest the materials). If you want to group, go whenever you'd like.

You get eaten!

If you look at the forums you'll find many people saying one should stay as long as possible while others say that you can as well leave with lvl 10. I'm one of the latter ones.

If you need coffee to avoid getting sleepy during a fight with a mob in the newbielands it's time to go on. I arrived at this point at lvl 15. I wouldn't recommend buying any extra armor or weapons other than those you use already for going to the mainland because you can get better equipment there. If you really want a small financial backing something between 20-40k could be usefull, but, again, it is not necessarily needed. You can earn dappers on the mainland as well as on the newbie island.

/edit: It also depends WHERE you are going. Zorai mainland is way less dangerous than mantis mainland, mostly because the absence of gingos, which have WAY too many HP for their lvl IMO.

I would rather wait until lvl 30+ because I made the mistake of going there when I was about lvl 25 and got killed every hour or two by gingos :(

Well, another factor to consider is if you have friends on the mainland already. If you plan on just fighting, then mainland is more fun for grouping. For harvesting you have to go to places where monsters can kill you in one hit without a chance to react. That makes it extremely hard to collect materials you need to craft so you are forced to level fight to survive.

It is just as easy to level harvest on the mainland as newbieland, but the spawn field near town has only one type of resource in it. There seems to be only those freebie fields near your capital. The rest of the cities don't have any. That means all the harvesters tend to roam around the area grabbing up everything.

Monsters also have almost 2x hps compaired to their newbieland counterparts. So thats another thing to consider especially since they only give the same amount of xp. I is very easy to solo in newbieland. It is very hard to solo on the mainland with certain classes.

I came over as soon as I hit 20 in Fighting. It hasn't been easy. I haven't really had a hard time of harvesting but I found it interesting that, where mobs were concerned, they were uneven. What I mean by that is, you had suckling, weaning mobs on the island and on the mainland you have suckling and timorous. What happened to the Weaning?
After being on the mainland 2 days I was shocked last night to see my first and last Weaning Budoc. Why they had suckling and not weaning is kind of odd.

The xp is nothing on the suckling and, at the time, timorous was a suicide match for me.

I headed over at L10 in fight and magic. It's hard, but doable...there are noob mobs right near the city and it isn't that hard to avoid the Gingos, or run to the guards if they aggro you. The only bummer part for me is that it's pointless to take missions, because if I go anywhere past the very edge of town, I'm dust very quickly...but I am learning how to avoid aggro and such. Tough call indeed.

20 is doable without a huge amount of challenge...I thought about dumping myself over to the mainland immediately on an alt just to see if it was possible. :)

Well, the biggest problem would be: starting equipment.
You wouldn't be doing optimal damage or getting optimal defense from the items that you could buy in the mainland cities. But harvesting and crafting some basic starter equipment should get you by until then. I think I'll give that a try tonight too :p Probably with a tryker considering their starting area is rather annoying :P

Is it just me, or do the fyros have one of the better starting areas??
