I know some of you disagree but my personal opnion of this game is it was/is still far off from being at release stage at the time it went gold.
The game is not finished, alot of the content is not there, for example Hawkers and alot of the things are still not balanced. I hope the gamble pays off and they dont lose customers due to it.
The thing that has high lighted this to me is ranged weapons and ammo. I didnt want to just go around wacking everything with a pike but the mat amount and cost needed to make each 12 clip is way over the top.
Also the range on the rifles is way to low, one maybe two shots and that scowling gingo is on you.
To get the mats needed I have to decimate about 3 herds to get enough to make 1 or 2 clips. It then takes 1 clip to kill a scowling ragus.
Hardly fair now is it.
Also 100 points per ammo plan, are you serious !!
Please tell me your gonna look at this or offer amnesty on those who hadnt done your beta and had no idea how pants ranged was.
Ranged Weapons and Ammo
Re: Ranged Weapons and Ammo
While I do indeed disagree with you that the game was not ready for release, I do agree that some things were certainly not as 'finished' as they could have been (missing names etc). However, I'm not going to go into that here.
What I will is that you are indeed correct in saying that nearly every beta player wouldn't touch ranged weapons with a 20 meter cattle prod, mainly because of the cost of ammo and ammo crafting stanzas.
Having said that, with regard to the comments on range, I would say that you might try different mats in your weapon and ammo recipe. I can't think of any offhand as to be honest I don't pay much attention to ammo attributes, but I do know that there are mats that give a range boost, and if you use choice or higher mats you should see a significant improvement in range.
Now, I'm not saying this applies to you as you mention quartering mats for ammo, but one thing I have seen is people crafting weapons etc from storebought or basic quartered mats and then complaining that they suck. I strongly urge everyone to try and find some choice or better mats and try again, you'll be amazed at the improvement.

Re: Ranged Weapons and Ammo
am a beta tester Only open beta but still tried out stuff before release.
Am also in release a Ranged Weapon crafter ( was in Beta as well ).
Now i agree ranged wpns are pretty limited, and ammo is expensive. However not to much so, now would you ever use a store bought sword... Nope no one would, would you use one made from basic mats?..... I dont think so.
The differance between a basic mat sword and one with good choice mats can be 100%.
so look at the stats on the store bought Ranged weapons and add 50% not to bad no are they.
Ammo may be expensive and could do with being a little bit cheaper, much cheaper tho and no one would bother with Melee wpns.
Get 3 people together with good rifles and good ammo. then see if that Gringo makes it in close.
Lazarus unfortunalty like many items in the game The bonus parts dont currently seem to work. Could make ammo with mats to give it range boost does not show on the crafted item, same with crafting a weapon with damage Boost mats no affect on the weapon, however if this is ever Fixed / Implemented then watch out for a big change.
Btw all of this is working of conjecture I still have not got high enough lvl or enough spare SP to do to much testing.

Re: Ranged Weapons and Ammo
Just to mention the 100 skillpoints/pattern
Unlike melee weapons or armor patterns, there are no "med quality" or "high quality" ammo patterns.
Once you learned it, you don't need to upgrade it, you craft the same bullet till level 250.
The only thing you can upgrade is your weapon (medium quality rifle pattern, burning launcher pattern...), compared to armor (heavy armor has 6 patterns/suit, 3 different suits) the cost in skpoints are quite balanced.
See now why they cost so much?
Concentrate on only 2 or 3 weapons + ammo instead of trying to get them all... immediately.

It takes 9 mats to make one clip of 12 shots... would you use melee weapons that broke and destroyed themselves every dozen swings? Would you be happy about the idea of harvesting many hundreds of mats so you could spend a few hours swinging a sword or casting spells? A full inventory of crafted ammo can be blown out within an hour or two. Ammo is beyond a "little" expensive, the actual prices are rather silly and should be reworked so you have a reasonable amount of ammo for the mats invested in making it. The prices on ammo crafting abilities are also rather silly... both I think will likely be fixed though, so quit crapping on his pitty party

you are vastly overestimating the power of ranged weapons. yes they have a high base damage when compared to melee weapons, but they have no ability to use enhanced damage/ignore armor/bleed/etc like melee does... it does about the same base damage as melee+enh damage and has the drawback of not being able to go get a handful of supreme mats and be good till it's time to upgrade (since ammo sets the damage and gets used up incredibly quick).
Re: Ranged Weapons and Ammo
Every kind of ammo has Piercing, Slashing and Smashing ammo. 3*100 = 300, that's already 30 levels to skill for all kinds of ammo for 1 gun.weiseman wrote:Just to mention the 100 skillpoints/pattern

Re: Ranged Weapons and Ammo
Indeed, tonight just proved to me that ranged weapons are a waste of crafting points and mats.
These guys need to relook.
While some mats boosted the range it was only another few metres. I found myself have to kill on average 24 creatures to get the materials for 1 clip. A mixture of basic to choice. Of course I used a pike as it takes 2 clips to take down 1 sprightly.
To ensure I had choice maybe say 50.
Also as both the ammo cases and armour lining use the same items its impossible to craft both.

Re: Ranged Weapons and Ammo
I was silly enough to learn crafting rifles and ammo but I left it behind me and use acid2 now for 44 dmg at no cost or weight. The only thing that would make me use firearms again is either double range compared too spells (at least) or dual wielding pistols
BTW: did anyone check the emote the character does while wielding a pistol?

Re: Ranged Weapons and Ammo
One thing folks seem to have missed on the subject of ranged weapons - they represent a paralel subtree to the melee combat line whose resultant skill points can then be plowed back into those boxes you missed whilst working up melee.
For me ranged combat represents a way of keeping those stength/blance/constitution boxes up to full throttle leaving points free to spend on increased damage, feint and other fun things.

Re: Ranged Weapons and Ammo
Well from what I understand, people want more ammo and better range? Perhaps if they changed it to an ammo crate of 10 clips rather than 1 clip alone? and range ... er .... er ... a scope lol no only joking. But I dont know, im totaly n00b to all the ranged thing, Just trying to help.
