A Great Game and Grumbling

Post by forest1 »

The basis of intelligence is feedback. The more feedback the more intelligent the responses can be. The less feedback the less likely highly intelligent responses can occur. I see grumbling, whinning, complaining and drama queening as very useful forms of uncensored feedback. And I see attempts to silence the grumblers by name calling as not much more than attempts to shut them up (censorship dictator style); however, if freedom of expression is allowed to florish regardless of whether a persons style is grumbling or drama queening then there is a greater possiblity of a high quality and continously improving solution(s). People are grumbling because certain things perceived as problems have not been fixed, and are not satisfying to some part of the grumblers nature. This is the whole basis of the scientific method. Feed back from large numbers of people enhance the understanding of what is going on and the ways the process is expressed in ideas and words, along with possible evolving solutions. Group intelligence can result in some amazing solutions if it is an open system where people can without fear of repercussions express their opinions, ideas. observations and scientific inquiries/studies/and test results, to be verified and duplicated by others (the big test). Many folks are taking many hours, days, and weeks, months, and soon to be years to play this game. That time can not be bought back. They have a right and a duty to utilize this marvelous tool of the interenet to give feedback as to what they find dissatisfying and what they think would make the game more fun. This ability to express in relative safety and anonomously
is what makes the internet the marvolous tool it is for bringing about change on all levels of society over time. It is why dictatorships fear the internet and why freedom lovers embrace the internet. I believe the people at Nevrax are a fundamentally good group who have created this super game. And yet something in the leadership of the group is missing or they are just underfunded. The list of things that were planned and partially developed if ever implemented would make this the most awesome game in the marketplace. Our ghost town cities would be a thriving metropolis. And needless to say the coffers of the developers would be overflowing with cash on a monthly basis. That is a win/win. All I have ever been asking for, and so many grumblers on this forum have been asking for is for the game the developers set out to and started developing to be completed and impletmented...Hurry, time passes swiftly and opportunities are lost....yes I want the fully developed game and I want it now.
For a partial list of what the game was originally set out to be, I refer you to the recent post on-- Chapter III is Outpost ...but what about the rest......., posted earlier today.

A good and fair post, I agree with your reasonings. I for one do not mind people complaining, they have a right to; just so long as they do it maturely and calmly so its to everyones benifit. Also don't keep making new threads about the same issues every day is what annoys a lot of people.

So constructive critism is ok, just do it sensibly and rationally I say :)

I am starting to understand the difference between (generalizing, I know) the European population and the US population. It is mostly in the subtleties in posts.

Where an american is really angly, a brit is slighty annoyed.
Where an american is used to get what they want as a paying costumer, an European is happy someone is actually selling quality wares.
And where the European learned that very many different people with a huge (mutual) background requires some carefull manouvering, the american is used to moulding his surroundings to his needs as a struggle against others who might have other ideas about that.

Now I dont say either way of life is good of bad, just different.

So what I used to percieve as whining, is actually a direct way of constructive critisism? I will try to adapt, I hope other try with me :)

I have names for it as well, none can be published without being flamed. Just that these differences require some adaptations from both groups, now we are all together in a small enviroment. We will need to share and more of that type of thing.

I call this unavoidable....

After two failed attempts to read this post, I finally made my own paragraphs in it by selecting (highlighting) and reading one chunk of text after another.

Once you get past that hurdle of no paragraphs, it's a very well written, mature, and well thought out post. There's good points in there.

It's already been mentioned several times that the complainers differ from those who simply abandon the game in one key way - they care about this game, whereas those leaving it have given up hope of of improving it. In fact, many people who simply leave Ryzom due to some or all of the issues being raised here, will not be so quiet outside of our forums...

I'd rather have our grumblers and complainers speak here than have them leave quietly from here only to slander our beloved game to other potential fans, causing them to reconsider even downloading the trial. At least here, they stand a chance of being heard by people who can do something constructive about the issues they are complaining about. If they do this on other gaming boards, or in communication with their own gaming friends, the only result for us will be non-constructive.

I alway's thought bikkering with a smile was a good analogy for the european communication system ;)
