The beggar.

Post by magick1 »

Not too long ago, a beggar asked for my help in Thesos.
It turned out to be more than just a cry for dappers or cheap alcohol.
He wanted to travel to Dyron as his end was near.
As his last action in life he wanted to fight Aen the desert blade, who had killed more than a few of his friends.
With his fighting skills and my, albeit minor, healing skills, we made it safely to Dyron.
Before departing from Dyron to face Aen, he passed on some information he have gathered during his traveling while in the Fyros armed forces.
He told me to go to the Highgrove research center, he had stumbled on some items there, and he thought they might prove of interest for me.

I haven't heard from him since, so he must have die in honour fitting a Fyros.

I didn't think more about the research center, until a friend of mine in the Ancient dryads wanted me to take a look around there.
Knowing that it would be very dangerous, I was about to decline as I suddenly remembered the beggar.
Not wanting to risk the lives of my friends, I decided to hire mercenaries.

The Samsara was the first to answer my call, and with some communication back and forth a price was agreed upon.
We were to meet in Yrkanis to buy provisions and then travel along the road.
The trek as far as the kami shrine in Grove of Confusion was without incidents, and I was beginning to think that I have wasted dappers on nothing.
My doubts were quickly put to shame as we spotted elite overlord kitin.
The first impulse was to flee at the sight of this army of terror.
How the Matis can allow such a force to roam their land I can only speculate at.

The mercenaries proved to be indispensable, the road to the center was packed with creature just looking for a prey.
After a lot of battleing we finally arrived, and I began to excavate, while the Samsara stood guard.
The beggars marks in the area was easy to find, when you knew where to look. And I quickly uncovered equipment of unknown origin and, more interesting, some partly damaged document.
Reading these I found hints at areas which the highgrove researches have been examening.
I believed that two of the places mentioned was the Highgrove in the north and the swamp in the south.
Since we where already close to Highgrove, the Samsara agreed to excort me there, for a price.

Fighting our way to the outskirts of Highgrove, we came upon a mighty kitin force.
The place was packed with elite and great overlod kitins, much more that we could safely handle.
So with caution and stealth we went about the place.
Surprisingly we came upon a camp of bandits, they called themselves Madding maid, truely a fitting name as they were next to the kitin force.
Their purpose there seem to be to guard what looked like a tunnel into Highgrove.
Our way forward was momentarily stopped, as we discussed what to do.
The mercenaries felt that they could fight their way through and started to take up positions.
Just as the fight began, we discovered the maids hidden ally. They called on a ocyx, which quickly ambushed the healers.
The only way to survive was to call on the grace of Ma-duk, who kindly moved us to Thesos.

All the fighting have seriously depleted our provisions, so it was decided to take a much needed break at the Thesos bar.
While mending our battle scars, we had some excellent firewine and conversations. This lasted long into the evening.
During that time, it came to light that it would probably be better to examine the swamp before Highgrove, as that place is less dangerous.

So next step in the discovery of what the meaning of the equipment is for, is to get a team together and go to the swamp.
But that is for tomorrow, as this Zorai have had to much firewine and sun, and needs rest.

Yes I know, should have posted this days ago. Just didn't get around to it.
Written in haste so please ignore the poor event story lead-in. :o
Guess it took a punch in the arm to get started (thanks Kostika). :p
