At lower levels, things are obviously a bit tapered to get you into the game and comfortable. Things are mostly based on timing rather than knowledge of the monster and variance of skill use. As you progress, you'll find yourself relying more upon your knowledge of the game, and the way you design you skills to interact with one another, to keep you alive, rather than just setting one default action and waiting on a heal from your buddies.

Edit: movement is keyboard based :)

you also need to rember when in a team fighting stuff in a mmorpg you dont want to keep having to attack tomb rader style simply because you will spend most of your time clicking on your team mates to aid them or chatting to your team about the best way to attack, who should do what etc.

mmorpg combat is normaly very imvolved

Mostly played solo in combat so far (though I am in a guild), and while I genuinely enjoy both this part and the game in general, just like almost every other mmorpg I quickly get that feeling that I am not really involved in the action.
I must also admit that I have never actually gotten to more than mid-levels in any mmorpg, so I am sure combat will become a lot more involved at later levels - and I hope and expect to stay with SoR long enough to find out.

It is too late for the current and forthcoming crop of mmorpgs to change much about their combat systems, but I really hope that future mmorpgs will learn from City of Heroes (with their own twists or maybe even move completely away from turn-based combat once technology allow it to be done properly).

CoH is the only mmorpg I have played that actually made me feel involved in the combat, and constant interaction and even moving around for positional attacks (cone attacks for instance) was a necessity for most archetypes.
The fact that it ran as smooth as butter no matter what happened on the screen added a lot to the enjoyment of course - but SoR seems very capable of handling a lot of on-screen action as well with no slowdowns.

While CoH may have nailed the combat like no other though, the fact that combat was the only thing it had going for it made me quit after a few enjoyable months though.
I must admit I miss my super jump though :) .

Combat is SoR is certainly not a clickfest, but you can initiate an attack by clicking on a mob. This will result in your default melee attack occuring.

Good fighters are very aware of what they are doing, between special attacks and using taunt to maintain aggro they must be very adept at their skills to be the most effective.
