What is it about the Saga of Ryzom?
What is it about the Saga of Ryzom?
I've been a subscriber to The Saga of Ryzom since the start of the game last fall. When I started the game was in what most would consider an unacceptable state. The first patch pretty much screwed everything up. The second patch on all account was a flop (the only thing it added was mounts). In the six months since it started there really only has been a few events that were noteworthy. Currently there are only a few quest/missions. The faction system is useless. The storyline is absent. The few times In the past 3 months I have logged in a handful of times, none lasting more than a few minutes due to lack of interest. I've played other games such as EQ2 and The Matrix Online both of which I enjoyed. Yet I still have my subscription to Ryzom and can't bring myself to cancel. So what is it about this game that won't let me stop paying a monthly fee? I honestly can't come up with an answer. All I know is that everytime I go to cancel something stops me.
Re: What is it about the Saga of Ryzom?
its cause its so pretty <3
im in the same boat <3
I love ryzom even <3
without any <3
tangible content <3
i speculate its cause of the graphics + open skill system + interactivity
but your one of those big blue guys, noone thinks zorai are cute
<-- thats you
wtf do i care if nevrax cares? of course i want them to make nice patches and content updates, bu they have to do that or they have no game. i've gotten nothing but shoddy answers and prodding comments back from the GMs, cause the questions i ask are too specific and they are never allowed to answer them, i play it for the game, not cause the developers are nice people, neun your an odd fellow
many of the reviews say thet Ryzom is Not successful because nevrax doesnt care as indicated by the petition that was ignored after patch 1. A review at gamespot stated that "...Nevrax often seems in direct opposition to the community..." as if they are caught up in their own agenda, something that seems stereotypically french from what i have heard
i seriously wonder why games like WoW are praised for their graphics...wow has sad graphics, who are these people that think that

Re: What is it about the Saga of Ryzom?
Because as much as the get bashed for not doing anything:
The company behind the game cares.
The community cares about the game and each other (sometimes its not expressed very well, but most of the time its because they care)
Its a small company with a project with HUGE potential.
Its small enough to feel like you as an individual matter and make a difference.
Its not a rehash of an existing idea.
There is always something left hidden that suprises you.
It could be said that there is not enough to keep people interested, the reverse of this is there is not a lot of stuff that turns you off.
A good friend of mine said and I will quote as best I can.....
An endless series of quests is just as bad and no quests at all.
Ryzom has freedom of choice, if you don't play it for 2 months, you not left behind ..... your just missed!

I agree with Neun. There's just something about the 'smallness' of Nevrax and Ryzom that makes you feel wanted and important.
Also true that the graphics are awesome.
I was B@W and having a look on MMORGP.COM. I saw a game by the name of Darkfall which claimed to be "a Next Generation online roleplaying game". They went on to say "By Next Generation we mean that Darkfall was inspired by the pioneers of online roleplaying games" and list the games that "inspired" them.
THey said that "Darkfall has all the features of its predecessors", hundreds of skills, spells etc.
Basically to me it sounded like they were saying "we couldn't come up with any original ideas so we've just rehashed all the ideas, weapons, skills, spells, races from all the other MMORPG games that have been successful."
Not something you can say about Ryzom, it has some unique ideas, unique races and perhaps it's that which draws you. The potential is there for it to be a truly great game.
Perhaps you keep coming back so that you can see that potential reached, can be part of it, can be one of those small band of people that one day can say "I remember Ryzom before it became huge. I was there when it started. I stuck by it. You new players don't know how lucky you are."

Someone on another thread, so time ago, said .... it would be nice if there was birds in the sky!
I said in reply, there where already, but I couldn't remember where I have seen them.
I remembered ....... Virginia Falls, Stand on the top of the falls and look either east or west .... 'There in the trees, their comming!' Kate Bush

There are loads of birds in Fyros. Just look up at the canopy, you can see them circling overhead.borg9 wrote:*HUG*

Re: What is it about the Saga of Ryzom?
What keeps me is a combination of things.
The community here is just wonderful...even when there are differences of opinion and spats we all seem to come together and try to work things out.
The look and feel of Ryzom. It is just so different than your typical cookie cutter mmorpg based on elves, orcs, goblins, dungeons and medieval fantasy.
The anticipation of what Ryzom can be. This game is a baby and has so much potential. Will Ryzom live up to its potential? I don't know, but I believe it can with enough support.
The most important reason for me and to the point is that I have fun playing Ryzom plain and simple.

Re: What is it about the Saga of Ryzom?
It is because it is Ryzom. It is a great game.
The community is great. Better than any other game I have played except for URU.
The graphics are just the greatest. I love sitting and watching the wind blow in the trees. and the lightening flashing in the sky.
I can be a fighter, mage, harvester or crafter. that is so great.
It is just a great game.
I will be here until they pull the plug
