I try that, but get that naughty messages:
Your foraging action failed!
followed by either one:
You failed to catch the material
You spoiled part (blah)

I am using speed4 gentle, rate5 harmfull and ql70 (while my lvl is 55).

So how to prrevent this???? Getting desperate here. Or should I get my lake to lvl200 for better rate and speed? Use full gentle? Both?

i get 2800 - 2970 too, and i get them messages but if u dont get too many u can max ur ql , i dig 30 lvls above mine so i'm lvl 80, i dig ql 110 mats, doesnt work always but i can say i hit 50% of them and the other 40% is between 90 - 109

u need speed 5 rate 5/6 (depends on focus) AND mats spec + underground spec wich reduces the agressiveness of ur digging

30 lvl above? hmmm, didnt think that far... And matspec, never really sen much use for that, but it might now indeed. Darn me! Matspec!
My focus is 3725, so that will be okee, I think...

So summarizing:
- get lake to lvl200
- get some 20 lvls in another land that is easy to dig for matspec sp

Ye lvl 200 would be nice and why dig another country just go pr dig right away, the mat spec costs but 10 sp, so u dig a bit buo right at tp before u know it u ding, head back get the spec and of u are 

yes if i remember right it was supr stuff though i think i dug higher then 2754 on choice (maybe caus i pull more mats out of it dunno)

I have 2 different extract actions, one that is up to 10 above my current forage level and another that is up to 20 levels above. I do 3/4 of the extract using my lower quality action, then switch to the higher quality action at the end to bump up the q of the mats I harvest.

For example, I'm level 203, so I use a q210 extract action. When 3/4 of the timer has run out, I switch over to my q220 extract action. This bumps up the q of the mats a lot and you don't have as many failures/degrades.

If you find that you don't have enough focus to do this, you can substitute harmful rate & mat specialization for gentle rate on the lower action. You do need to use mat specialization on the higher action to minimize degrades.
