Well despite all my complaining and such on the lack of content in this game no matter what else I try I keep coming back.
Maybe its my setup, but most probably its Ryzom itself, but this game is so pretty that I don't mind dancing around casting heal for hours.
The other big plus in this game is the communication. I actualy need help on why I feel this way, but I find it so much easier to talk and stay in touch with people in Ryzom. WoW and other games seem to have a similar setup as far as chat goes... what do you think?
I don't mind the server going down as much as some other people, probably cause I need to get other stuff done too....i.e. laundry, vacuuming.
Are there other games that are this pretty? I haven't found any.
Why is it easier to communicate here? The characters people create seem to have such character even on first look(supposition)?
my opinion :-)
Re: my opinion :-)
I think alot of it is the people in the community. I played AO for 3 years and never once did I have the kind of communication there a I do here. Not with other players or with the CSRs. There's jsut something about the people that makes it all a little better.
Re: my opinion :-)
not about how you talk with the people? theres nothing different about the chat window? I find it hard to beleive that its just from the type of people :-/
Re: my opinion :-)
In SWG the chat window was super lagged, I could barely type anything in there; my keystrokes were delayed by seconds. Not only frustrating but very annoying. It kept me to talking to a bare minimum and I relied on voice software quite a bit with the guild(also made me come to hate it
).
If that's what you mean then yes I agree it's much better in Ryzom.

Re: my opinion :-)
I came from SWG recently too, Dagger, and I have to say, even with the chat lag that was so incredibly stupid in SWG, I still think that on the whole, the quality and maturity level of the players in this game make it much better than most other mmo's out there, and I've played a few.

Re: my opinion :-)
I really do believe differant kind of people are playing SoR than I played with on AO. Differant type of game attracts differant type of people. The AO chat windows were jsut normal, barely differant than the SoR ones.amitst wrote:not about how you talk with the people? theres nothing different about the chat window? Well I agree with you there and my theories are:amitst wrote:Are there other games that are this pretty? I haven't found any.

Ryzom & populace feel like a real world...
Other games feel like game lands with annoying 'quests' and real places that don't mean or do anything. The same with other game's NPC's, they are only there to give you another cookie-cutter kwest. The same with the other game's players; they are just noobing about from one NPC to another like delivery-zombies.
Ryzom 'missions' and 'events' actually do make a difference...
Consider the type of events we have; helping players to new lands, invasions and escort trips etc. Now while these don't result in new landmarks or in game 'differences' they are very much alive and effect the players in the world, building new relationships and character abilities or perceptions. Other games are just so samey that you know every other level 40 scout (for example) is going to have Sir Bigname's Armour of the Stars. And they would have got it exactly the same way using the same dumb NPCs.
Ryzom is built by the players....
Consider harvesting and crafting. The game starts with bugger all and has no drops. You gotta explore, dig, experiment, craft and trade all by yourself. Very real worldy and this causes a lot of bonding with the environment and other players that supply or buy or care etc.
Well, that's my theories to explain why I feel a bit like you. All we need now is outposts and world events (like the goo) for all this to come together in a more meaningfull way.
Finally:
Yes, there are other games with lovely graphics, a bit better than Ryzom imo in some ways, but I do have a high end rig so perhaps it shows things up.
Re: my opinion :-)
In general I disagree. I don't think it's the opposite, but I don't think this game is an exception to the rule.
I do not think players shape the world in this game any more than others. I don't find this game to be that revolutionary. the level of graphics detail is amazing though.
people... well, I have found a group of nice people, and I did find some very helpful people when I first went on my trial period... but the interaction since then hasn't been exceptional. I'm also now set in my social circle here. not to say that I won't interact with other players, but circumstances arise less often. and I find just as many jerks and unapologetic idiots.
ho-hum. whatever. a diversion.

Re: my opinion :-)
I don't think it is the ppl as such or the community itself, I think is due to the game and the character and what it makes of us (players)...
I explain:
Other games characters are far from the real us and cos of graphism, cos of interface, cos of i dunno what, u can just play and hide (RP what you are not..).
In ryzom, you can RP the game yes but you can't roleplay yourself:
This game is too much of a micro-society which would be kinda transparent and a lil replica of real life...
The guild, the interaction between ppl, the way friendship, help and encounters are created makes it different from a game: it makes it a reflection of real life and society behaviour.
Alliances, deceipts, happiness, achievements are imo much closer from reality than from any game.
And U can't roleplay yourself in that game or not for long: the true character/inner-self will come out very very fast: good, bad or neither good nor bad, just homin
That I think is what makes this game and most of the good or tensed situation in game were pure reflexion of what heppen in life:
-Confidence/trust broken
-Pure unexpected friendships
-Love
-Fight for power (personal power like str but also power over over with the involvement of guilds, leader, HO...)
-Conciallition, reconcialliation....
All of those things which makes us homins and are so reflected in this game more than any other.
This game isn't real life for sure but through peopl interraction, i think is one of the closest one to real life interraction.
So if that community is so great, maybe is as well some hope for the hominkind out there.......
That is ...... if we don't crash

check, check, check, check, and check... I've been through all of those at least once in my stay on Atys. It was the beauty and fascination of the world that lured me here... but it is first and foremost the players that make me want to stay.gillest wrote: That I think is what makes this game and most of the good or tensed situation in game were pure reflexion of what heppen in life:
