A polite request regarding Guild invites

Post by earthforce »

Hello everyone :)

I just wanted to post a quick note saying that Raliph and I is grateful for all the guild invites we have received and we like the people we've met in from the guilds.

However, is it possible to not constantly try making us join your guilds. I do not have any interest in joining a guild as raliph and myself are happy the way we are playing (Raliph can tell you ingame that I have said he can join a guild if he likes).

Thank you.

Then you should probably form your own guild with just you pair in it.

There's a fair bit of competition for members.

Imo just inviting anyone that appears guildless is not... hmm.... the best way. First you should talk with that person, see what he thinks, what he wants, if he wants to play further, if his view over the game is the same with your guild view. Spamming anyone with invites will just bring you members, not guildmates. And a guild having 200 members and only 10 active is not what I call a guild, lol.

Just my 2 dappers :)

That is the nicest post I have seen in some time. You won't find me hassling anyone to join us. Hope to see you in game some time. I don't think there should be the kind of drive for numbers there is at the moment. I intend to have a recruitment drive for the Stormdancers soon, because our numbers have ebbed (but I'll get to that in another post) but one of the founding rules of the guild is that there is no pressure to join, and no hassle if you want to leave. I only want members who want to be there, not who feel duty-bound in some way. It's just a game! In a roleplaying sense, we may give leavers in-character jabs (for example, if they said IC that they hated us!) but I think that it's always preferable to have an in-game friend and have them leave the guild than to lose them as friend because of how you treat them when they want to go.

We have our bootcamp and our roleplaying perspective which helps sort the wheat from the chaff but it is disappointing that so few people are willing to make the effort to get into our guild.

Then you also have to consider that taking a more circumspect route rather than join-spamming everyone in sight means you miss out and, once people are in a guild it is hard for them to leave or join anyone else.

I was wondering why this would be? Can't they just use the in-game option to leave their guild (ie the button)?

Not saying that doing this would be very courteous to the guild being left if the player did not announce his/her leaving first.

There's this weird thing of "loyalty" involve.

It's really interesting to see that kind of morality/ethic come into play thru the mmorpg medium. There's a certain social aspect that you don't get in stand-alone games that can be both good and bad. Good in when you have good times and fun, it's always enhanced when you share it with other people. Bad as in, well, when things get bad, it gets really bad. Emotions are involved, things spiral out of control, miscommunications, different perspective, ego and esteem, all that jazz.

When this happen, do what I do (though it rarely works). Pretend every player you meet is a computer controlled character. Just with really really sophisticated A.I. :p

Sometimes people don't want to hurt others' feelings by leaving. Some may be afraid of angering the guild they're in and its members by leaving. Some may feel loyalty even if they don't feel they fit in.

There are a host of reasons that I've come across. Which is why I always make sure my members know its solely their choice to stay with my guild.

Sort of on the lines of loyalty, people who have been getting good weapons and other items from the guild might feel bad about quitting because of the help they've gotten, and some members become more hostile to that person after they've left
