Illegal action

Post by hfmp1 »

Hi im new to ryzom and i keep getting CTD when playing, i keep getting
either a runtime C++ error or a message saying something about ryzom
trying to perform an illegal action and then a error log like this:

Illegal Instruction exception generated at 0x8E8AC7.
The thread tried to execute an invalid instruction -such as MMX opcodes on a non MMX system. Branching to an invalid location can cause this -something stack corruption often causes.

At the login screen is a check files button. Try runnging that and see if it finds any problems. This fixed mine when I was having alot of crashes.

Have had loads of problems with Ryzom, but most of them have been solved by some simple steps.

Do you have a Firewall? (in windows, in your router or in your modem)
(I have 1 on my computer and 1 in my router)
If so, remember to open the follownig ports :
UDP 47851
TCP 80
TCP 40916
TCP 43434

Be sure you got the latest DirectX installed
Check that you have the latest drivers installed
(directx must be installed before display drivers)

For some reason the game will not start if am using 2 monitors.
I have to disable one of them.
The game almost never work when am using my lcd moitor.
(havent found the solution for this yet)

In the game configuration try to choose "direct3d" and "disable agp for vertices" and see if there is any change in the game.
If not, also try to "disable pixal shaders"

Open "ryzom" folder and rename the folder named "save" to "save old" and create a new folder named "save".

If nothing of this work try to download the game again.
Delete the old ryzom folder before reinstalling (remember to take copy of the "save" folder in the "ryzom" folder if you have added information on your maps.

Good luck :)

I'd suggest you take a look at the last lines of your client.log, which is in your SoR game folder. Read the lines carefully, if there is something askew, it will most likely show up there, regardless what the messages say that appear when SoR crashes.

Also, before trying to delete / rename any files, consider resetting your graphics configuration to "Normal/Normal/Normal/Normal (64Mo VRAM)" on the Display details page of the Ryzom outgame configuration, if you didn't already.

Additional, can you remember when those crashes first occured or if they occur when you are in a specific place or region or when you are doing something specific (e.g. crashes occur always when you do offensive magic, for example)?

@andter: I know this is off-topic, but did you ever try running ryzom in windowed mode instead of full-screen? :)
Go forth, live, learn, and most important, live together, not alone, for thou will soon discover there being a great danger, a danger thou never seen afore. The existence of Hominkind is at stake. The Kitin are still on the surface, great numbers of them. Who the Kitin are? Your worst nightmare...

It crashes randomly, im still on beginner island. Normal settings didnt help, my system should b more than enough to play it, ive updated driver for gfx + mb and DirectX 9c but that didnt help

my system is if thats any help to u:

AMD64 3700+ clawhammer (watercooled so heat shouldnt b an issue)
Chaintech nf3-150gb
2 x 512mb Crucial pc4000
Sapphire X800pro Toxic 256mb ram

Just got a new error message:

Re: Illegal action

Post by random44 »

This has happened to me several times.

The first time, I went to C:/Program files/ryzom/save and copyed all those files into a folder for backup. Then I deleted them from the save file. They will become corrupted usually if the game crashes or if you terminate the process using the task manager. This should let you back into the game, though you will have to reset your window interface.

If that doesnt work, try running ryzom recover in the C:/program files/ryzom folder. There should be an application for ryzom recover found there. Double click on that and let it do its thing, and once it's done you should be able to log in again.

Sure it's more than enough to play Ryzom, can't be very old yet ;)

Well, the first message you posted I didn't see at all yet, the second I know to occur when having

a) temperature problems
b) some kind of memory problems

You wouldn't like to run memtest86 over night, would you? And do you have other software that manages to consume your entire physical memory? If yes, do you have issues there?
Go forth, live, learn, and most important, live together, not alone, for thou will soon discover there being a great danger, a danger thou never seen afore. The existence of Hominkind is at stake. The Kitin are still on the surface, great numbers of them. Who the Kitin are? Your worst nightmare...
