Abyss of Ichor

Post by malkor »

I was running up a bit of a DP running along in KoD today, when I decided to take a venture into the Abyss of Ichor. Along with finding unfriendly aggros, unfriendly tribes men (i suppose "death" in the title should have tipped me off) I ran into Kitin patrols, that seem to be able to aggro from 50+ meters. I was wondering if anyone had found a good way of avoiding such patrols, or navigating well in PR without agrivateing the local mobs.

Also, I found a pretty friendly Kirosta who was willing to take some pictures with me (until a few friends showed up...)

1. Stay along the walls
2. Set radar at 125m and look for holes
3. Figure out what range mobs get aggro on you at. Hint: tyranchas are pretty darned blind
4. Make sure to have speed boost, invulnerability, and melee protect aura. For exploring, speed boost is the most critical.
5. Mark your turns on your map. It helps.
6. Good luck. Abyss isn't actually all that bad. :)

Hey, just because the killer kirosta was "friendly" doesnt mean you have to pose nude with it.

Hints on travel in Ryzom:
go out and buy fastest CPU on the market
go out and buy fastest video card on the market
get three to four TIMES the max recommended Ram
get fastest hard drive with HUGE capacity
get a defragger that doesn't take four hours to do its job and defrag C drive and drive you have Ryzom on two or three times A DAY
I would say fiddle with video adjustments in game, but there is a debate about that being against EULA (which is STUPID, if I can change a file IN game, I should be able to change it out of game), plus I never noticed that making a hill of beans in Ryzom.

Get a fiber to premisis connection.

Find a five leaf clover (I hear they grow in clumps near Three mile island, in fact...I have seen pictures of them) and have the devils own luck.

OR bring two or three friends with you ANYTIME you move from point A to point B in this game. These friends should have best gear in game, a spare of each and be as HIGH level as you can find in Elem Mage, Healer, and 2hnd melee.

OH if you like to SOLO explore...forget it, you will get close enough to see something interesting, and then see the kitin patrol in the middle of it. This game is VERY against the Explorer type that is NOT highly achiever as well. If you explore for the thrill of seeing new, without the thrill of dying 500 million times to get that ticket or spawn spot...sorry...wrong game.

I have found that any area from one land to another has at least two mobs with "odd" agro ranges. I have found mobs that had TWICE the normal agro range for their mob type, and that ONE mob is placed...NON pathing...in the middle of the rest.

I have found mobs placed in the middle of a bottle neck, that had an agro range of EXACTLY the width of the bottle neck, and that mob NEVER pathed. I have sat for FOUR to FIVE hours in a "safe spot" (long enough to cook grilled cheese sandwiches for four people, make iced tea and start a load of laundry, pull a load from the dryer and pull the basket to the computer) and everytime I came back to the computer, the Super agro mob was STILL there.

I went back to Horizons...just to fill my NEED to travel around and explore without INSTANT and repeated DEATH. THIS ONE thing is going to be what drives me off. I can NOT stand that travel is SO difficult that I get flashbacks to trying to get both the Magic epic weapon and the Druid epic weapon (two MONTHS in Sol a, and THREE in Sol B NEVER again).

And all of this with NO serious reason as to WHY travel is THIS danged hard!
If storyline had a point to this, if there was ANY HOPE of it ever getting better...or anything, but...nope.

As it is...travel is NOTHING but a stinking game of FROGGER! I hated Frogger, I hate ANY twitchfest arcade game!

On almost every thread i see your constant whining about the same thing, lyrah68.
I have a "reasonable" spec, 2 year old laptop, and i manage solo travel fairly easily. Enough already.

Do you have all the basic lands? There are a number of low-ish areas and high level areas with low mob concentration to explore. Once that's done, you pretty much need a party. But you can explore the bulk of the game solo if you have the teleporters, etc.

It is a skill you learn, getting through Prime Root areas. The reward is max dp and several tp tickets. To be successful you need the following:

Patience (sitting still for 10-20 mins at a time waiting)
Good vision range on your setup, so you can see holes as they appear in the mobs.
Good pattern recognition skills, to detect gaps in mobs that will last long enough for you to run thru.
Patience
Your compass, I set mine at 50m so I can judge 25m agro better. However as some have said, some mobs have more than 25m agro, like the patrols (which seem to vary between 25 and 50). Tyrancha have LOW agro, closer to 10m.
Learn to love herbivores, sitting in a bunch of them can sometimes create temp safe spots.
Invulerability. Melee aura and Speedup.... you can outrun tribes, but you cant outrun mobs. Make sure you have all three ready for the last 200m as you sure as hell are gonna die 1m short of the spawn.
Patience
Learn to hate Kipesta.
Learn to hate jet black varinx

Start off by sitting and watching the patrols, learn their paths and timings, keep 50m on them at all times.
Hug the walls where you can.
Look for gaps in the mobs, dont use speedup unless you know a safe spot on the other side.
Find the safe spots, make a chain of them as you progress further in.
Find the TPs and get a ticket IMMEDIATELY. Once you have a ticket you can start off that far in and not back at the entry point. Buy 2 tickets just in case. Normally when you tp in you will be safe from agro for a time.

Be patient.

Alternatively find a team of 8 level 200's and blast the hell out of everything.

Mai,

We were down there a week or so ago in a pretty experienced party (Synergy). We got wiped about 3 or 4 times by the patrols (yes agro'ed at about 80-100m). Then the patrols just stopped. After running into them continuosly for about an hour we then spent the next hour without seeing any sign of them what so ever.

Not sure what you can make of it. Without the patrols you could probably explore a bit without any problems, so perhaps just try again?

I'm no expert on PR though.

I have found that around teleporters, working or not, you are safe until you move, which is usually when you BUY the ticket after porting in. SO...I wait until nothing agro is in sight (200ish m's, give or take, a bit less if land isn't flat or in the dark/pr), that way...port ins are 100% safe.

Yep I have waited and played the Frogger. I have made it from Windy to Font, no less than 500 times (maybe as many as 1K), which I think anyone with a web ready system and 56k dial up could do. That leg of the trip is pretty much simple. It is the last part of Bounty Beaches that kills me.

I am most upset due to ALL of this frustration being on TEST server, so the 8 friends in the high 200's isn't an option. I would give my left arm, last pick, and ONLY mount on my account on ATS for a full suit of Q160 light, medium armor, Q160 two hander, Q160 jewels and one or two other players trying the same thing. It wouldn't be easy, but ONE of us might make it.

I am not sure if everyone has this issue, but my MAIN issue is that when I try to run through the "holes" a mob will SHOOT 200 to 250 m's (from off of the compass on farthest setting to in the middle of me) in ONE four second tick.

Trying to fix this I have run two different defraggers on my system, run Norton's disc doctor, run Norton's clean sweep, had three of my hardware Geek friends check ALL of my hardware to see that IT is running right, run two different Spyware blasters, and had the software Geek tweek Windows for "optimal" speed (he has this laugh *twitch* that tells me he is happy with the results, GOD I hate that laugh, but he is nice otherwise *twitch*). This all helped SOME, but not enough for me to think it is my end.

I also have three other games, four if you count Horizons, to test my connection...NO lag on those other guys, two of which are still DEEP into EARLY beta (the English translation is a bit iffy here and there, even if you CAN understand it). So I don't know what it up, could be a driver/hardware issue with Ryzom.

As far as other players not caring what I think...Fine, doesn't bother me. I am trying to get the attention of Xavier so that he can take up the issues with the devs. If you don't like me, no skin off my nose. There is an ignore list, PLEASE...feel free to add me. Then you will see that I reponded, BUT my message will NOT show on your system. I did that with Xcom about two months ago...glad that I did. This list is on your account customization or whatever they call it, not easy to get to, but worth it.

As far as remaining touchy feelie and all warm and cozy...I lost the love a while back, so people getting RUDE with me...too bad, doesn't bother me  .
