windermeer shard is down
Re: windermeer shard is down
If this game is their proof of concept for their engine, I'd hate to be the business owner who buys it... The community liaison is a joke too. Is that all you can say after 12 hours of downtime: that the serv is down and won't come up without its back-up server?
Pfft, just when you thought the French ran out of things to screw up...

But yes, the community liason is pretty well.. useless. Not meant to offend anyone, but sheesh, so far this could have been better handled with a server status description on the server status page on the main website. Second, nevrax has a tech support department that has been completely useless for me.
And the bugs in the game, wth is with that? I mean, sheesh.. missing TP's, poor graphics management, random crashes.. I have other games that are WAY harder on my 6800 Ultra than this is, and they never crash even with view and draw distances way way off.
Back to the point tho.. how can a hardware issue keep a server offline for 12 hours? I run SMALL networks (250-1000 computers) and they aren't expected to be up 24/7 but they all still have secondary backup servers ready to go in if the main server or the backserver dies.. it's a simple matter of unplug broken server, plug in backup server... All the data is on one or the other server, and due to SQL replication, the data is always up to date!
Simple.. 1 active server, 1 backup active backup server, 1 backup server on the shelf. Granted this game needs clusters, the exact same thing can be done with cluster servers too. Sheeeesh
And if this is all hosted on rented clusters then they need to find a better datacenter who actually DOES have 24/7 monitoring and onsite staff to fix issues.
Re: windermeer shard is down
I just think they don't have a clue on how clusters need to run. I have never in my life heard of a situation where a server could not run because of its back-up being down... Just disconnect the darn thing and rebuild a new back-up if you're not smart enough to have another one ready already...mentloid wrote:L
