I havent played a fighter class yet (I've only played around in beta for like an hour as a crafter) so I dont know the skillset. In Anarchy Online I played an enforcer and they are masters of gaining a mob's attention (they use abilities that will make mobs attack you instead) so that all the other characters can focus on doing damage and healing without fear of getting slammed by a tough mob. I plan on making a Tryker melee fighter (balance of fighting skill and evasion). If there are any former AO'ers can you fill me in on some things to consider (like how to make an enforcer-ish character) before I make my character?
It sounds like you're wanting the taunt skill which is available in the fighting skill tree. I'm sure others have more experience using it than I do so hopefully someone else will come along and shed some more light on whether this skill does what you're after.

If the taunt skill is high enough in levels it works on every single mob. However, using circular attack in an invasion WILL get you mobs attention that you're after, no need for taunts there. As a matter of fact, you dish one out at a group of mobs and you won't be seeing nothing else than the eye icons all around you ;) (the eye icon right next to mob's name indicates that it has targeted you). Well, given that you took the initiative anyways.

You keep hitting them and they won't pursue the supporting casters. However, if the supporting nuker kind of caster opens the fire at first, the mobs will be running after him/her, and then it could get a bit messy, as taunt only works on individual mobs. Or that if you don't keep hitting the mobs around you, they might pursue the healer who's healing you instead. But there's always the shielding skill, which enables you to take damage instead of the target you're shielding.

Eshin is correct, a good fighter will never allow a healer/mage to have aggro for more than seconds...

The BEST fighters have every "Taunt" upgrade available just like his "Increased Damage" stanza... it is that important for the best team fighters/tanks. If a mage is good, he does NOT pull for the group and is at the edge of his casting distance from the team. Mages standing close to the team often draw aggro, those standing away rarely draw aggro...

A mage thats does draw aggro is wise to use an affliction and put the fighter between him and the mob before the lock is lost. Using similar tactics as this have kept me alive to assist the team as needed. I see alot of mages standing beside the fighters, they just make the fighters job harder doing that.
