Tales from Atys - The path to a Hero

Post by bullough »

Hey guys, may remember me form a while back i wrote a cpl of stories, for reasons i cannot explain i had to leave ryzom suddenly, but i have returned to the great world of atys to once again tell you stories from my adventure!

Enjoy :)

Here is the prelude to the story if u missed it. :)

"Prelude

Zigarakk was born into a rich zorai family whose names were well known throughout the old dynasty. The family were well off and lived in an expansive house not far from the capitol city. When he was a small zorai child he used to play in the nearby clearing not far from his house, and made friends with the surrounding wildlife. His life was frutiful and for many years the zorai people lived in harmony with the local tribes.

Some years later rumours began to circulate of a shadow growing in the north, an untold menace of terrible proportion. The rumours began to grow and many zorai's became increasingly worried. One autumn day news reached the capital that monsters had begun to stream out from an underground realm that was supposedly a myth. As the weeks dragged on even more disturbing news was coming in that these insectoids had decimated the fyros people.

With this saddening information the Zorai people began to leave the capital for safer isolated dwellings. A final evacuation date was set and many were ready, those who stayed behind did so under their own values. On the day of leaving the sunrise was a blood red and the Zorai prayed for their protection, they prayed that the wood would give them refuge.

A zorai soldier entered the city gates carrying a wounded matis warrior. The matis warrior spoke of the terrors he had seen and asked if the matis people could come and shelter in the zorai cities. The great forging of the two homins created great respect for their brothers.

With the merger of the two civilisations the Zorai people who remained began training for the long and bloody fight that lay ahead of them. Not much longer than a month later the news that the insectoids had reached the zorai outposts reached the city. Zigarakks family took up the task of leading the army into battle, this being because they were the only noble family left in the capital.

It was a crisp winter morning when the gates of the city parted and the army moved out. On the horizon thousands of insects lined the hills and the sky. The moral looked weak among the homin until Zigarakk's father took a stand on the castle walls.

"Homins of our race, brothers of matis we have had our differences in the past but today we must fight, fight for you familes and all of you fallen breatheren"

"Charge.........."

The battle was bloody with many falling, the insects overwelmed the city and flooded every street. Many of the zorai were wiped out but those who survived ran into the jungle to seek shelter. Zigarakk's family dynasty was lost and forgotten as the siblings were killed in the great zora war.

Many were forced to retreat with the kami to the Zorai island the last refuge against the great kitin army as they were now known. And thats were the story of our hero begins, in a small clearing just outside of Nen Xing........"

The journey begins

"For me to tell you that my story is one of an easy life where i settled down with a partner and raised my kinsmen would be a lie. My life has been full of danger and excitement and i am only know begining to realise my true role here.

When I left our last refuge I was but a young and nieve homin, but through time I learnt the ways of the zorai, passed down through my generations. The old dynasty that stood is now nothing more than a ragged line lost in the distant past. So lets delve into my life so far, and who knows what we might find.

Brave homins are we sitting comfortably.......
Then I will begin.

When I arrived in Zora, I was tired and exhausted. The kami way of transporting homins is not one that I would like to use all of the time. I decided to make my way to where I thought was the old family district. This place felt new to me, not like how I remember it, there was certainly a difference but I cudnt quite put my finger on it. I looked for hours for the old district but I found nothing.

By now I was begining to feel ill, I decided to ask some of the town guards about the old city. I was shocked for them to tell me that there was to be no mentioniong of the previous age. When I asked them why this was I was arrested and taken before the head of town.

I was placed in chains at his feet.

"This one was asking the wrong questions my lord so I have brought him before you"

"You have done well, thank you"

There was a strange feeling I felt growing inside of me, something I hadnt felt for a long time, a feeling that there was a presence of evil. He began to talk, my ears burnt with every word he said.

"Welcome Zigarakk, ah yes I know your name but how can this be? Do you remember when your father owned a proportion of the city, and there were those certain people that he treated with respect, with a sense of dignity?"

And then it hit me, though I was still a young zorai child this person and remained a strong figure throughout my childhood. He was Ven'l La chou my fathers advisor until he began to experiment with a strange substance and returned a different being, like he was possesed. I remember that we had recieved a message before the great attack that he had recruited a small group of followers and attacked the kitin outpost at underway arch.

My hatred swelled inside of me.

"Ven'l La chou, how did you make town lord?"

"Much has changed since your father was killed and the kitins invaded, without my help and understanding of these magnificant creatures we would still be at war with them."

"You are not the person who stopped the war, your responsible for starting it! You are nothing more than a traitor!"

"You do not know who you are speaking to, you young fool, I have the power to take away life with the click of my fingers. Don't you dare speak to me in that way."

He came closer, I saw his eyes changed colour, a red glimmer rolled accross them.

"But for now we have to think about what we are going to do with you, we can't have you spreading these lies about me all around the city, you are banished from the Zora district forthwith under pain of death!"

I was released but I had been branded with a mark of my face, the mark of an outlaw. As the guard slowly dragged me out of the city I looked to other homins enjoying a cup of phykopia juice by the fire, each one gave me the same look. A look of dissapointment and disgust. I felt alone, no one would give me a second look.

The guards left me about 4 miles outside of zora in a place I was unfamiliar with, as he walked off I noticed the same red glimmer seen in Ven'l La Chou.

Over the next couple of weeks I met with various other outcasts and after what I had told them, I realised they were all in the same situation as me. I told them what I had seen on my first day here and they told me it was the goo, a vicious substance that feeds on the minds of all living things.

We formed an alliance known as the "Abyss Eye" and we made it our mission to rid the jungle of the goo and to overthrow Ven'l La Chou. I began to learn the skills of a healer, and as I progressed I could feel myself becoming stronger. My spells were getting stronger and my friends became my only family.

Life was good until news reached us that a kitin army was massing near underway arch........
