Well, I'm basically going on the feedback from the last event of that type. A lot of players got bored eventually - an event needs a purpose, and I'm not talking about rewards or anything like that.

An event also needs some direction, and the potential for different outcomes. For example, we need the ability to push back an invading force to it's original position, and mount a counter-attack that would end the invasion. If a defending force outnumbers the attackers, a counter-attack should *always* be an option. A fight isn't a fight without that option.

Also from what I saw last time, the forces do not approach in a structured fashion, but just keep coming in a steady stream as they are killed. Even a semi-intelligent force would change their tactics to suit the current battle situation. Attacking forces have objectives, and attacking forces have a reason for attacking. And that reason isn't to be killed at the front lines due to crap tactics.

I know people are bored, but surely fighting wave after wave of the same kitin until they stop, every time, isn't really relieving that boredom? :) Hardly any of the stuff above is present, so why will these invasions actually be interesting? Sure, we haven't done it for a while now. Well, if I leave washing the dishes for ages, sure enough, when I do it again it's no more interesting than it was before.

The raids before really were great, The Kiten can throw wave after wave of attackers at us cos theres just a never ending stream of them im sure ya would soon be whining if mobs was countering every action you tryed to take, like attacking healers first heh. Just to see every one on Atys all races team up for a raid used to be a true wonder.

Having not been there you probably don't have the same feeling...

Currently it seems they want to roleplay events... you follow around some wanna-be "General" and they magically find a Kitin Tear and say "Mission Complete"... thats worse then having a light beer IMHO.

I don't know how it went on Aristople, but on Windemeer we had an outright blast during the kitin invasion. After having figured out what needed to be done (yeah, the information flow for real stuff lags far behind all their RP stories) in order to make our camps guard appear... We awaited the Kitin Prince.

Once we knew where his lair was, the Matis guilds united in a scout/assault force to isolate and kill this poor goo infected beast.

Now, that in itself was just the cherry on the sundae... to get there we had to craft weapons and armor for the NPC forces and harvest kitin saliva. Delivering packages of these items brought more NPC's forces to bear at our camps. We also were rewarded tokens that could be redeemed for weapons and such. Anyone that has seen me fight at tournaments with daggers may wonder how my simple daggers do so much damage... they are daggers I have been saving from this event... my reward daggers were way too high level at the time, but I have grown into them :P

On the other hand, if we did not have swelled chests after bringing down the Kitin boss, and progressively went to every other land to help them beat their boss and left them be... we would know more about how much true impact we could have on the storyline by LEAVING them to succeed or fail in removing their boss. That would be awesome to really impact things in that way... though I suspect the scripts are all written already and our direction is fairly linear...

So what was the final outcome of the Kitin invasions on the various servers and lands? I was under the impression from someone's comments that the German server failed to kill the bosses (or at least one boss).

They just dissapeared. I think we all killed the bosses eventually, some just takes longer than others. It was more like a short story rather than choose-your-own-adventure-book, if you know wut I mean.

hehe they didnt just disappear. On the final day there were 3 kitin bosses to kill, what actually happened for us was that we struggled to kill the second one, and the dev's pulled boss number 3 who should have been at the site of the new portal.

Totally agree!

Even if some people got bored with the invasions, that doesn't mean everyone did. On top of that, there are a ton of players who've never seen ANY raid, and I can about guarantee they'll enjoy participating in even an old style one.

Given that, I'd love to see more complex and open ended ones too. However, if that isn't happening soon (literally, not to be confused with "soon(tm)"), give us a plain old "boring" one and it would still make a lot of people happy and buy some time.

The kitin are an ever-present threat, as far as I'm concerned. A raid from them doesn't need a large story wind up to happen, just throw them at us randomly in between the story driven action.
