I read that far in this post and stopped BECOUSE of his post.

The OP has allot of the same concerns as i.

No game is ever "It is what it is". That’s a really bad stance to take, for allot of reasons.

Basically, from that post, He doesn’t want the game to change, or evolve.

Im just wating for someone to tell me to go back to WoW (and i have never played it) becouse i want such things as more "quests", Player housing, Non-Armor clothing options, and space warfair.

Any way, I’m over it.
*sigh*

Just to clear up one thing.
I WANT Ryzom to change and evolve.- In it´s own style, way and time.
I want it to maintain its uniqueness.

I DON`T want it to become another "run of the Mill" MMO. Cloning things that others have done before, to be more like the "big boys".
No more, no less. ;)

And yes, I´m over it too :p

I've always found it interesting when reading forums, that people either take the 'zomg nerf blah or buff blah' approach, or the 'it is what it is' approach. The OP imo has stated in a moderately intellegent fashion what he feels hurts the game's ability to appeal to a larger audience. Contrary to the elitest amoung the player population, there are bean counters in every company that say "we need more beans". Increasing player population is 1 way to do that. Increasing monthly cost might also work, as would releasing an expansion and charging you. Helpful suggestions to improve the game's appeal is almost never a bad thing. Even useless flames about "buff this and nerf that" give the designers an idea of what their customer's perception is.

Coming from World of Warcraft, but also having played 90% of the games out there, I can say that there are a few things that IMO make a game a winner in the market.
1. strong solo play. Yes you can say "but why play a MMORPG if your going to solo?" Who cares, people do. that's why there are 5million wow subscribers (a marketing inflated number to be sure). DDO had a decent release, but shortly after release, lost alot of players due because there wasn't any solo content. They are currently releasing more solo content with patches/expansions.

2. A feeling of progression. If you sit down for an hour or 2, you want to get up feeling that ou made progress. Quests do that. I know that when I played Asheron's Call, I'd sit down, make a goal to gain 5 skill points in skill X. or complete quest Y. and get up when I was done. in Wow, I'd measure it in quests completed. Games that do not have any measurable progression, or where progression cannot be percieved are difficult to attract players to. ADD? whatever, I'm not judging, just making an observation based on experience and alot of forum reading.

3. good customer experience. From what I heard, Ryzom excels at this. I'm glad to hear it. Customer service comes from several avenues. tech support/GM assistance is nice, but also events, updated content, and an evolving world are important. lastly, continued 2 way conversation between what the players want and the developers give. IMO this is an area where blizzard, SOE, and other companies really fail. the AC development team IMO hit the nail on the head with their monthly chat sessions, continual changes based off feedback from the players, and an active interest in what the players wanted. If the players feel like the game is being made for them, and not just their money, they will feel more vested in it.

Random Ravings of a madman, take it for what you will.

I understand.

But people will allways ask for things they enjoyed in other MMO's.

Every one has the perfect mmo in thier head for THEM.

We all look for the one that matches that the closeset.

I agree, clone = bad. Adopt and improve on the concept for the setting = Aswome.

I do however believe, that there are some "Standards" (Standards in this is at a minimum what people expect) missing from ryzom as far as features for a sandbox go.

1. Player housing.
2. Player Cities or towns (Not in the ring, that doesn’t cut it, in the "real world")
3. Non armor clothing options.
4. Player market system of some kind. Something that works outside of the one we have now.
5. LAST NAMES!!!1!!! (lol)

There are some more... but im not sure if its the masses idea or that MMO in my head again.

1. We have, its just barebones.
2. I think the ring CAN be used for that and when we get to paid for outlands that'll kick up a notch.
3. I agree, but I don't think you do see that in every game.
4. In theory what we have is fine, but people don't use it properly.
5. Can't see the need really, not in game.

1. That’s not housing, its large storage. You cant decorate, or even have others come in.
2. Yes, but it shouldn’t. Things of this nature need to be part of the "Real world", not an instance somewhere, sometimes up... Walking over a hill and seeing a player town in the distance is more immersive than "porting" in to some were..
3. Not every, but i know it would be a hit if it was added, but it serves the RP crowed mostly.
4. Im more interested in being able to combine the player housing and the player town in to the ability to set up communities that include shops and shop keepers. You get the idea.
5. Im assuming your not a role-player then... Last names are invaluable as content fro RP oriented players, Whole families, and linage’s can be formed using them, its amazing how much just a last name impacts the RP factor.

5. Grimjim has some roleplayish tendencies ;)
Anyway, rather than lastnames, I would prefer a system where you know/see the names on people you don't know, but will have to ask first and add the name/nickname of your new friend yourself.
Ulani Viccio - Class of Casiu Bellini 2521 - Proud ex-Evolutioneer - Serving as a Phaedrea's Tear - Painted by Ayur
Miwekalili - Kulupu e Pilin Pona - Apprentice Scout of Atys - On vacation
Sparta'Caussey Aeddan - Top Class Mekherder of the Bounty Beaches Slavers' assortment - On vacation
Rueti Huxtable - There's no I in Zoraï - Member of Whispers of Aria

I don't mean this as being completely dismisive of taking ideas from other games or for making improvements to Ryzom (like the R2!) but sandbox style games have rarely been big winners on the market compared to loot kill repeat games and I don't belive those games style can be completely mixed with a sandbox game without turning it into a non sandbox.

1. Yes your right they are large storage, but they are a start that hopefully will be expanded on.

2. I agree that player cities are more impressive when not instancted but then there is also not wanting houses everywhere. I loved SWGs houses but I don't want the way those houses were everywhere in Ryzom. I want the wilderness to stil be the wilderness.

3. Very few MMOs have a non clothing system unfortunitly and I'm not a roleplayer and I'd still love to have it :)

4. It is a nice idea, player created and decorated shops can be alot of fun but again I'd want some limit on where they can be.

5. The lack of last names really doesn't bother me and I see no reason why no surnames stops roleplayers doing any of that. I know some roleplayers would prefer for their name to not be visible about their head unless they had introduced themselves and even then they'd like it to go away if they disguised themselves.

I'd imagin the hardness in tracking down griefers as well as a working friends list and tell system are reasons that hasn't been done.

Heh heh, couldn't be more wrong, I'm Mr Roleplay :)
My point was I don't see the need _in_game_ you can still name yourself and so all the rest without it hovering over your character's head :)
