who'd of thought that a few missions to act as a tutorial would cause so much fuss.

for all the newcomers one of the bigger problems Ryzom had was the old starter isles, they did little to encourage new players, who often left feeling confused, lost and lonely.

What we have now is a unified area, a very indepth explanation of how to play and some lore from the missions on the island. The mainland is the same as the island, its the same game lol. When you come to over it's now kinda assumed you can hold the right end of a sword, heal someone, etc, etc

There are loads of missions on the mainland, if you do them you will get to know an area well, learn where everything is, paths to travel safely, where the mobs are, gain fame with tribes and factions. What they most definetly are not are go slay the evil kipee of doom that drops a shiny +3 long sword that you can take and impress generic_fairy_prince(ss)

I would like to know how the game plays off noob island. I do enjoy it enough to pay the 15 bucks to find out, though. My real concern is, knowing the noob island is brand new content, I am worried that the game will be very different once I leave.

When SWG released the NPE it was pretty cool, but it wasn't a good representation of the game beyond it. Noobs would sign up after playing the new content and be disappointed once they got out in to the real world. Quests dried up, PX was considerably slower and the population was sparse at best. Those are really the concerns I have here. It would be nice to have the option of checking out the actual game a bit without having to activate the three accounts at my house to do so.

SOE have mass marketing power and are a high profile company that is well known to all....not just gamers...*try to find someone who has not heard of the Sony comnpany*.
And your example is a powerful choice......because the view of many in online gaming is influenced by these experiences. The real problem is compounded by the enormous publicity surrounding your example,
If a 'trusted' sony deliver a product that the player experiences is not as accurate as implied (careful choice of words there ) , then how can a company that has no profile be any better ?.
But the reality is......SOE view you as a source of expendable income.
Here you are a valuable asset to the company. And your entertainment is the PRIORITY.

And..if you don't like what you see on the mainland, you don't pay the second month....P.S. I BOUGHT the DISKS for ALL the other online games. Ryzom download was FREEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!

There isn't a forum for this post so here goes. I'd like to organise an Atys world games? what do you think? I think theres at least 20 sports we could bring in the best of the best to compete against. It could either be race against race or guild bound. I think we could make this an atys day to remember in a year when the world cup means very little to lots of us....come on...support yer matis hero!
