Actually it is not important if they sell the game enginge or not. The important thing is what we have in the game.

First let me start by saying that I still think you should get yur backside bck in game because right now Evo is one Sandbag (tm) short and we really liked having you around.

Now to the real subject of this post: What do we have in the game.....
Well we have nukers doing insane amounts of damage and to make matters worse they have 50m to kill a mob...
and then we have melee who don't do quite that much damage and have to get up close and personal with the nasties to hit...
further more we have the support classes that don't do damage at all or only very little but enable team members to kill mobs and live (I'll put ranged in the support class for now as they are a little gimped atm...)
So what do we end up with?
Team play

Melee has a clear role in the game and even though it doesn't do the most damage it is of crucial importance in any good team. Why? well you can calculate all you like but that won't mean a thing if you leave out one variable... Nukers use hp to cast their most powerful spells. So yes they do have 50m to kill a mob but they'll be low on hp by the time they have or if they have a few resists they'll be dead after one hit. Having a healer (or preferably two) will partially solve that problem but it will still leave the team vulnerable. tanks have a strategic role in a team, they keep the healers save and give the heavy hitters a chance to do their work uninterrupted.

All of this does not mean I think melee is perfect atm but it's not nearly as useless as some people say it is.
Adding some more goodies perhaps slightly increase the damage and making the various weapons a bit more useful would go a long way into making melee a more interesting class to play.

p.s. I do realize that I've kinda derailed this thread, sorry for that ;)

Major thing what we totaly don't have, is goals, nothing nada... i don't think lvl250 is a goal.
Does'nt matter if the nukes rule the day in dmg cus we still don't have any goal.
But this have nothing to do with the thread, true.

Actually I've mentioned things about this too, but noone has noticed them it seems. What about small events which are easy to implement and give us small goals till the big ones get implemented?

The tools in R2 and the ones th gm have is most likely very simular i think.
Place mob there, open portal here and so on.

Think it depends on whos running the show on the servers.

And i agree would't not be to hard to make some normal events wile we wait.(no for the love of all whats holy and so on NO gladiator events, god they are boring)

What kind of goal would you like to have?
Rid Atys of kitin? For that every kitin in the game would have to stay dead once killed...
Find out the truth about kami and karavan? There have been several events giving both clues aswell as obscuring the issue...
Reach lvl 250 in all skill trees in all skills? People have tried that and got bored with it and are now blaming nevrax for creating a game that has nothing to offer...
And now my personal favorite: go out play an online video game and have fun teaming up with other players dp be damned...

(not flaming you just curious about what you consider a goal worth while...)

i had a big chat with someone ingame about goals the other nite. Thing is Ryzom doesnt give you any, it's up to you as a player to come up with them. That, imho, is one of the best things about this game; we actually have to think and not wait for the uber spoon of content to feed us.

Yes, lets start with the kitins, i think it would be a great acivement to say root out one of the tree trunks in zoria, and may get a spesial item or in some other way a prise for doing so.
If you manage to get to, say a spesial totem i wastlands you get some kind of neackless for spesial tracking skills or some thing, just ides popping out here.

This just small goals but lets start there...

If you use special items as reward, all high level ppl will run for it, so I think it's not the best idea. Look at Aen, he spawns -> high lvl peeps kill him for armor. The result is that high lvl is stronger and low and middle lvl players have nothing to do.

My personal opinion is that they should put let's say 100 kitins or just NPC's (bandits) to somewhere and let them move slowly towards a city or a camp. We don't even need to know where they are, let players scout. If the lvl of mobs or NPCs are mixed, lower lvl players can pull out the small ones and higher lvl players can concentrate on the big ones. As it is written down:

"Imagine standing outside a city, watching a hill in the distance, and seeing the first members of a wave of Kitins appear. Now imagine hundreds more following them, moving as a single, swarming army. Battles of this scale will require dozens of players working together to fend off serious invasions."

It's a simple thing to do, it doesn't really need story and the players would be very-very happy with it. Even if they loose some camps/cities in the fight.

bye, blondy
