Don't they have any disaster recovery plan in place to restore a server within two hours like most serious business do? Especially a server so prolific... or maybe they are not a serious business... Think about it.
The problem is, we are in NA not Europe/France so they dont care how fast or how efficiently they get the problem fixed. They are focused more on the European/French customers, and not NA.
Why else would they not sepnd money to make sure the NA server has back ups. That is the only sound reason, there are no backup servers for NA. Just backup servers for European servers.

From what I am reading is that the normal server started back up but the backup server did not. They won't run the normal server without an operational backup. It's not that the normal server can't run without it, it's that they won't run without it. As much as it sucks, they are doing the right thing.
Of course this doesn't excuse 12 hours of down time. Maybe they will do something just for the NA customers to make up for this.....
(ok, it's a dream but let me have that dream just for a bit)

Well the right thing would have been to have a disaster recovery plan in place that works... If the backup server is that messed up, how long does it take to replace it and rebuild a new one from the main server? Definitely not 12 hours+ and someone with a little bit of brains needs to make the call after 2 hours of downtime... Any way you look at it, they seem very amateurish to me.

But that's what you would do if you were a small business owner, or a home user... a serious business would have another server already built ready to be replaced/mirrored/etc.

FYI, it snowed all day on the East coast yesterday. New York probably got hit pretty hard. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Exactly. If they just ran it without the backup and some random thing happened to make the server go down, you would all be complaining when it rolled you back 12hrs. At least this way you probably only get rolled back a little bit and you get to play in the real world for a day
Also as for Jolt having anything to do with it,
this post by Xavier makes me think that all of the servers are
maintained by Jolt, with the 3 EU servers being in UK and the NA server being state-side.
