Re: is free or all PvP in the prime roots gunna kill PR foraging? bit of a rant... sr
piknik..... just wait till you want to enter the roots for whatever reason and get portal ganked by some roving band of idiots and tell me if you still like the idea of open pvp in that area
. I still have nightmares from ac2, it went like this.... on our server we had a guild called aod (a-holes of dereth) and all they would do is cause trouble on the server... and they would always sit right where you come out of the portal to enter the pvp free for all area.... dying before you even get a chance to defend yourself=not very fun imho.

Cerest, if stating my opinion in the public forum has any weight, I'm going to come out again and say "I can speak from experience on this"
PvP in the PR, with harvesting taking as long as it does, will happen and will definitely drive non PvP minded people away and interfere with harvesting. I would test it, but what I'm talking about is the human psychology of MUD PvP, not the mechanics of it. I've done the testing with this over years of experience playing PvP and mixed MUDs. I don't want to sign up for the ATS just to do this, but I most definitely will and suggest what I'm saying strictly about the psychology of it.
I have a suggestion, as far as making the PR PvP -- some PR zones, but not all. I'll suggest this via the ATS route too. I'm not trying to be manipulative, but I'm talking strictly about the well known human factor in MUD/MMORPG PK, and there's nothing specific to Ryzom to test -- I already have the experience.
I am in fact a big Ryzom fanboi, though this proposed change has caused me to, out of concern over wasted time, completely give up working on harvesting (PR harvester), completely give up on working on crafting (multiracial crafter), and was one of 2 major factors in getting me to hold off on working on Ael in general and switch back to everquest for a month. This last paragraph is just me saying I think it's a bad idea, but the rest of my post was meant as constructive suggestion.

I do believe that the Ryzom community is above petty griefing, but since we can make new chars (that means anonymous play), and can very quickly get them mid-high level focusing only on one branch of fight, there's no way I'd trust even the best community to be good.

We have the yet to see Magnificient raw materials in game?
Create a new portal zone, same as the Prime Roots, with more aggro and open PvP.
Call it the l33t R@@tz.
In it, have Choice to Magnificent Mats. There's the incentive for Harvesters getting ganked.
And then incentive for Guilds to want to control it.
Then those who want to do the Fear->Nuke from 50m on a helpless Harvester, or a "Look at my qu200 sword - between your teeth" strike on that same Harvester can.
Harvesters will have a huge reward for that risk.
Guilds will have something very sort after to control.
And people like me and the.. hmm 15 people I have asked who all seemed dismayed at the PR being open PvP (not one person has liked the idea that I have asked) can dig away in the PR with only the KPs and other mobs to worry about.
Just my thoughts.
Anyhoot, this isn't my forum.

Well how about this...instead of making all PR regions open PvP...make only those that are direct routes of travel between lands such as Underspring and Umbra. Wastelands and the Abyss of Ichor are not direct routes and would likely be less contested on an outpost pov. Wastelands and the Abyss should of course be open for outpost battles and all since well...they're there, but have them be safe zones for harvesters so they won't have to worry about being PK'd. IMO this is the best way to please both sides of the argument. Of course most of you won't agree with me because I left open PvP in 2 of the PR, so flame away.

Magnificent mats are mission mats, not crafting mats.valkyry wrote:We have the yet to see Magnificient raw materials in game?

I personally really like this idea. I'd prolly be for non-PR areas like this being PvP also, if we're gonna have some PvP regions. Crossing those areas is more a one time deal, and PvP would add another danger to this trip. It's harvesting, which you have to sit down and do for hours to make any progress (long periods in one spot too), that I worry about.Well how about this...instead of making all PR regions open PvP...make only those that are direct routes of travel between lands such as Underspring and Umbra.
Re: is free or all PvP in the prime roots gunna kill PR foraging? bit of a rant... sr
The only issue with this is people accidentally hitting members of another group/guild on trips. If people can hit the wrong mob by accident, smacking another player on accident can happen as well, which could resort down to a free for all. Or another bad thing is fear, accidentally causing a player to run into a group of aggro mobs, then bringing them back.aelvana wrote:I personally really like this idea. we forage umbra and underspring mostly i believe. umbra for me since i am tryker. from the few that have tried venturing into the other PR regions north of umbra they seems to be worse and tighter packed than umbra.aelvana wrote:I personally really like this idea.
