It's irrelevant though, It will be up to the company that purchases it ( which I hope will happen) I know we will have little to say about that

Just easyer and more customizes
Oh bad community f2p games dont have bad community's but p2p has it more realy go play a p2p game and ask around (NO-Responses what so ever there all selfish) or just try to talk somtimes it happens but 9/10 it doesnt.
I ve tried almost every mmorpg even the new ones and i can say that f2p is flying over all of them the effects work more and companys seem to see that.
If there is a cash shop, Economy wont change cause cash shop is a payment method witch sells only EXTRA STUFF (dont u know that)

There is another option noone mentioned: f2p without cash shops
Ryzom cannot be compared to any f2p games around, it is a professional game such as CoH/CoV, Lotro, EQ2, EVE, WoW, and most of the other p2p games. Point.
You don't need zillion of players to make a game successful and profitable, just 200.000/250.000 players are enough to make profits.

If Ryzom went F2P-with-cash-shop-etc., I would go so far as to actively work to finish it off.
I don't understand the posters here who say they wouldn't play a game with a bunch of l33t kiddies, yet say they would ACTIVELY DESTROY a game just because they couldn't handle it. This is just as immature, if not more so.
Pot meet kettle?
If you want to quit, that's fine. Other people, like myself, want to play.
If any of you had actually read any of the posts concerning implementation of the cash shop, you'd see we support SUPERFICIAL ITEMS that don't affect character experience, or game-play. If you crawled out of your cave from time to time and explored other MMOs, you'd realize how successful some of these items are. Ask the average Rappelz player why they've bought a bunny mask, they will not say "for the .002 points of extra defense," but "it looks cool." Take away the defense, the items will still sell. Hell, FLYFF and Last Chaos don't even pretend that their clothing items have any utility, they're just fun outfits that offer NO bonuses to combat stats.

Alot of this 'NO WAY!' attitude is snobbery, it's almost like arguing with your grandad about the benefits of new technology. I'm not saying make Ryzom F2p but just add a shop for more income. The subscription is pitifully low anyways but that would be a decent barrier against 10 year olds. People seem to be under the misconception that with something like a shop it would instantly ruin Ryzom. You'd need to play a game with a shop (and like it) to be able to see both sides of it objectively.
It makes me laugh that people say you can buy yourself uber with in-game shops. Anyone that says this truly hasn't really even played one, otherwise they'd know that this simply isn't true. How does armour/weapon covers make you uber? Isn't exp potions the very same as cats?. How does buying a blue pet animal put you at an advantage against other players that couldn't use the rl cash to buy one?
The feeling that by adding a shop would instantly turn Ryzom into a korean f2p game is nonsense, they are very different entitys and by adding a shop, believe me, Ryzom wouldn't automatically become one. I've played both sorts of game, i've also loved both sorts of game on different merits.
This game is no less l33t just because instead of outright abuse and swearing people throw dictionarys at each other and insult in exactly the same way but with more eloquence. In fact, i've found it far easier to ignore fools in other games that run around using coarse language than to ignore the very few fools in Ryzom that do just the same thing but far more subtlety and nastiness.
People that don't want to pay rl cash for just a load of pixels..err, isn't that what you do with subscriptions for games anyway? Your char and the items it has acummulated are the pixels you pay rl cash for. How is this so different from having other bought pixels from shop items...they are all just pixels bought for your entertainment.
@Acridiel. You haven't been rewarded for your own website and it's cost to you with uber items and stuff beacuse be honest you simply love doing it.
The acclaim you get from others for your efforts are i'm sure worth it. But to the point...if you had advertised one of these other evil evil f2p games in the way you have Ryzom you would have been rewarded. They give out rewards even for having a sig on other forums with the game logo on it.

eriu3 wrote:Kat, theres no such thing as perfect, to get what you want, you may have to give a little. Personally i played last chaos for a few weeks, great mechanics/events, crap world, compared to ryzom which has a great world but lacks the other. The two are uncomparable, but both have great concepts, corrosive? maybee but attitudes need to change else alot of people are in for a shock.
Ryzom has great mechanics, including several truly unique features. It also used to have great events.
What you suggest is not "giving a little." It's submitting to antithesis.

I
have explored other MMOGs. Many.
Why I react so strongly to these suggestions:

This is also true. At the moment, Ryzom has no community. It's completely empty because of the lag, which is probably due to the fact that they can no longer afford their bandwidth costs and so we're all lumped together on one crappy connection.
F2P with cash shop is a very successful model, as proven by it's widespread use. I once read an article that said that the cash shop model was more profitable than P2P. I believe it, too, because I've known many people who were too cheap to pay a monthly fee, yet once they were "heavily invested" (read: addicted) in a game couldn't stop themselves from maxing out their credit cards. My roommate is one of them, since he has paid 3x what he would've for WoW in the Rappelz cash shop, yet won't try WoW because of the monthly fee.
I believe in paying for it if it's worth it, but I don't think he's "teh evil" because he's more, uh, frugal, than I am. He's a nice guy, who works a lot and has little time to play IRL. He's the leader of a big guild who own a dungeon, and in order to defend that dungeon, he needs to stay competitive with his guild mates' levels otherwise, there's not much point. So he buys cash shop items that help him level. This is exactly how they were intended to be used, so I don't see a problem with it. Even when I do see some l33t kid running around with $300 worth of cash shop items on him, I am not so insecure that I have to go rant about evil capitalism and have a cry into my pillow, when simply ignoring them will do.
