Has anyone considered the best time to start building defense and offensive OUTPOST, would be under WAR conditions?
Its a good job that there isn't any sign of a war happening soon isn't it, cas boy we would need OUTPOST then wouldn't we.

A demonstration or real game?
Re: A demonstration or real game?
Yes I've considered. Defensive outpost has to be built in peace. It's a kinda late to start building when the war started.borg9 wrote:Has anyone considered the best time to start building defense and offensive OUTPOST, would be under WAR conditions?
Hm... As I see a lot of players want the war, don't they?borg9 wrote:Its a good job that there isn't any sign of a war happening soon isn't it
It's a game, gamers like challenge I think.

I don't know anything about 3d modelling and animation but I don't see much difference if they have rendered trailer with 3ds max or imported 3ds max models to NeL engine and used that for rendering trailer.

Opps sorry my comment was slightly heavy on sarcasm

There is a huge build up to a war ..... this current main event is about a war building between factions.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the outposts.
But then again they could have invested millions of Euro in to product development - to the make momey of out a Game Engine.
Btw did you happen to notice the Nel the game engine is errrrr FREE.
So I guess they are going to make an absolute fortune selling a free game engine and a game (Ryzom) to errrr ONE customer! (Guess they could try to sell Ryzom to multiple companies, but I have a feeling that just isn't going to work)
Re: A demonstration or real game?
Only the bare bones library is free. All tools and more advanced stuff is part of their commercial offering.borg9 wrote: So I guess they are going to make an absolute fortune selling a free game engine and a game (Ryzom) to errrr ONE customer! Re: A demonstration or real game?
lets just say that it is true and that SoR is just a demo for their NEL engine, if that demo is fun to play then who cares?
btw: I do not believe this whole "demo" thing and I think nevrax is just trying to make a game and as far as I'm concerned they've succeded nicely so far. Now if only they would give me my jetsky I'd be one happy tryker....

Re: A demonstration or real game?
Yes, I did and I've checked the source code as I'm a programmer and it's always interesting to look how thing works.borg9 wrote:

Actually it is not important if they sell the game enginge or not. The important thing is what we have in the game. All of you've said that leaving because of that kitin larva thingy was silly from me. But that was only one of my reasons to leave, the last bit let's say.
This game is one of the bests i've seen. But, it has heavy problems. Let's start with the events. The general event idea is that events lasts a few hours and guides lead us. This is a problem as we have nothing to do between the main events. (Ok, we can grind.

I don't know how hard it is to organize a long event but if it is hard then I have to say that there are fundamental errors in the development environment. Let's say kitins attack a city, do you remember when goo infected gibbais went into Zora. Let's say kinchers go into a city and we have to defend it. We have to push kitins back to their original spawn. All devs have to do is to lower the level of the guards or even select a camp instead of a city. I simply can't find reasons why not to do this. We've seen all the tools in action, why can't we have small challenges like this? As I see this community would help to anyone who needs help in Atys but noone asking for help so grinding left.

Another problem: the game is very, very, very unbalanced. You want to kill something: use magic. There is no other way, nukers kill, others heal nukers. We've calculated a bit, max hits:
1h melee: 337 / base hit * 2 (inc damage) * 45 ? hit / min
2h melee: 552 / base hit * 2 (inc damage) * 30 hit / min
mages: 750 / base hit * 2 (amp power) * 2 (double nuke) * 40 hit / min
means:
1h melee: 30330 / minute
2h melee: 33120 / minute
mages: 120000 / minute
Now, let's say melees have armor. That's best misleading I've ever heard.
- mages have 50m to kill the mob, melee has 20, but if I taunt mob will hit me first usually and it's better to run away a bit as aggro radius is around 20 m and I don't want adds, means mob has the first hit.
- mages usually do not have to face with special attacks, melees have to count on at least one special attack in a fight
- mages have to face 1 or 2 attacks of the mob, let's say it's 2000 hp lost. Melees have to face 7-8 attacks of the mob, even if they have a good armor it's 4000 hp lost.
I don't believe that they cannot even try to do some balancing.
I believe that they are developing fantastic things behind the scenes. But why can't they do that 3-4 days of work in a month to give us something?

Re: A demonstration or real game?
It is like that in Other Games as well as far as I know. Nuker is a damage dealer and melee is damage absorber aka tank. You can't compare pure damage per second rating as they have different roles in team. A nuker is pretty much dead if mob gets to him without good healer and may have hard time even with healer.
I agree that offensive mage damage is bit too much but not like that your numbers suggest. I suspect that actual problem is too good healing spells.

Re: A demonstration or real game?
You'r right, so give melees armor for being a tank... That would be a solution. It's a type of balancing.mmatto wrote:It is like that in Other Games as well as far as I know. Nuker is a damage dealer and melee is damage absorber aka tank.
And you'r right healers are too strong, and that means that noone needs a tank. Sometimes i've tried to find a team in GoC, noone needs a melee, what for? And when I went there with my guild it was simply a bad feeling as I only made them progress slower as they had to wait till the mob reaches me and I hit it, etc, etc.

Re: A demonstration or real game?
Agreed, armor should offer better protection as it does now. I actually mentioned about this in one thread couple of days ago but whole thread seems missingszoszi wrote:You'r right, so give melees armor for being a tank... That would be a solution. It's a type of balancing.
