ATITD & ATITD2 actually has a set lifespawn, I beta'ed ATITD2, very good game for those who are non-combative, and there economy system is untouched by any mmorpg, along with there construction / training system, again, its in a league of its own.
There is an ultimate collective goal of building the great wonder, but to accomplish this, you have to work as a nation under the Pharo, the players make the rules, not the GM's.
You have to learn the skills necessary from the university to then write a rule that is signed by the players, once a number of players signed the rule, then it is turned on in the game, literally.
Its the only game where the player base can actually have the ability to 'vote' someone out of the game, and that persons character gets deleted.
So if you anoy a nation, and the nation says forget you your gone, your character is whiped, and you have to start over, clean slate, new character.
Also has a time limit, something like 2 or 3 years real time, by that time the game concludes and the next chapter begins (this is the second iteration currently begining)
Ryzom is dynamically growing, actually has one of the best storylines I have seen to date, and the possibilities are endless, they can go midevil, they can go modern, they can also go future, and of course they could to apocoliptic.
We as the players today, will have the advantage that future players will not have, and that is to see the game grow and see where they take us, I am treating this game like a living science fiction book, they create the scenario, we write the outcome, they then develope the consequences and build the next plot in the story.
Is Ryzom on the map you ask? Of course it is, it appeals to a certain audience, mainly thinkers, people who like a good book, who love to emerse themselves into the science fiction and go on a journey.
I am still trying to follow the current storyline and find the npc with the knowledge, I don't even know if its implamented yet, but I have visited dozens of npc's and tried to trigger events, and only so far successfully triggered one player event, which I posted, and seems to be around a 2 or 3 day cycle.
Think about it for a second, what other mmorpg have you EVER seen that has hundreds of creatures within 250 M of you to kill, and get material and exp from?
None
How about thousands of creatures on a full raid invasion, again, no mmorpg has this, not a single one other than Ryzom, because there game engines can't handle it.
