I can understand some of your concerns regarding PvP. But , I repeat, nothing is set in concrete. This information was made available to those not able to access the ATS forums but who could log on to the ATS (which has been fixed). I don't think that it's fair to judge a new feature (be it good or bad) unless you have tested it yourself. Thus, if you have access to the ATS, I strongly urge you to test and report about it on the appropriate ATS forums. Everything on the ATS forums gets looked at by the devs, so obviously that forum would be the best forum for your concerns.

PvP is always a touchy subject because there are those who live for it and those who abhor it. It's imparitive to test these new PvP features out thoroughly. We won't be able to keep everyone happy, this is, sadly, a given. But with proper feedback we will be able to gauge the feature properly and perhaps make sure it has minimal negative impact.

I just wanna know when patch 2 is coming out so I can fill my sacks with pr mats.... after spending 6 hours getting roots kami tickets it's a little unnerving to know that it might be soon a pvp free for all down there... I'll also be working my melee skills as close to 200 as I can get them before patch 2 goes live, incase anyone wants to get nasty down there if it ends up turning ffa.

I've applied for it and was not accepted. I look forward to seeing the views of the testers here. :)

It is however fair to comment on a planned feature, even without knowing all of the details. Over the last few days there has been an awful lot of folks not very happy with the idea of pvp in the PR or having hunting areas turned into PvP areas because they are "high level", a handful of folks asking for full on unrestricted full loot pvp... and some folks admitting that they enjoy pvp sometimes but that they don't live for it. Test server players have a long and glorious history of being virtually ignored in almost all cases of MMO test server players in the past, and patch 1 didn't give a lot of folks very warm fuzzy feelings about things being different here yet if at all.

The thing is, inbetween those folks who "live for it" and the ones who "abhor it" we will always have a huge chunk of folks who just want to play the game and be able to enjoy it. Some of those folks will enjoy pvp sometimes, but they don't want to be forced into playing a pvp game all the time. They don't want to be given choices of taking N hours to do 1 hour worth of work in a pvp area, they don't want to be forced to not harvest somewhere because someone decided to try turning an area into +PvP, they don't want to be forced to defend a base every single day because they know that when it dies they suddenly can't use all of their stuff or are vastly less powerful and everything was designed wiht the assumption that they would have said power boost, they don't want to be run over by those two sides of the live for it and abhor it coin...

It would not be logical for me to join the ATS server, as I have only just started playing this game - not enough game experience yet. I am low level.

However, one of the big attractions of this game was no PvP zones other than arenas or dueling. I have had experience in other games with gankers and sadistic groups out to cause misery for soloists and small groups. That would be a MAJOR turnoff if forcefully incorporated into this fine game.

If a PvP zone is so important, duplicate the Prime Roots, call the zone a new name, and set it for PvP accessible by portal for those interested. But leave the existing Prime Roots alone for reasons already stated so well in previous posts.

If you do create a PvP zone, it will be visited briefly by many players out of curiousity. Then the population there will fall off quickly, and you will wonder why you spent so much effort creating it - as demonstrated in so many other MMORPG games.

Just my opinion.

It is pretty easy, one MOSTLY mature (enough to stay UNDER the radar of most mature players) finds out about FREE for all PVP mosh pit, and he tells two friends, who pick up their cell phones and tell two friends.

and they pick up THEIR cell phones and tell two friends and so on and so forth. And then TA DA, our game is ruined when the EQ rejects and Lineage two crowd POUR like sewage into OUR civilized game..

Yep it is mature now, but you would be surprised what a cell phone and 100 dollars in the hands of a ticked off or bored teen can do.

I'm really disapointed that this even on the plate without any mention of some important issues.

Prime roots have some of the best mats thus the majority of players risking death penalty are harvestors trying to get gear for themselves and guild/friends. So essentially by making this area a Open PvP area harvestors are easy targets that cannot defend themselves. Here's why. Harvestors digging doesnt notice a blue dot coming towards them gets nuked by a mage at a far distance. Options are to run or fight. Fight is not a valid option cause by the time they stop harvesting and equip a weapon they are dead. Run option isnt valid option either cause that 2nd cast is already coming your way and you are most likely already dead as you look to see which is the best direction to run.

Ok now onwards for the more incidious endgame possibility. A large strong guild guards the various spots needed for good weapons mats killing any non guild members trying to access that spot. There are prime spots that I can think of that this could be problematic. The strong get stronger and the weaker players do not have acess to the nice mats and cant compete against the players with the nicer gear. Thus making it even more difficult to fight for the right to harvest mats for nice gear.

There has been no mention of any impact for the potential PKers, come on now, there should be negative consequences for those that indescriminitly kill other players ...especially those not ready for combat (i.e. harvestors). A major one I can think of and was extremely disapointed that it was not even mentioned was fame. We get negative fame for killing NPCs. If you kill a non combat ready player repeatedly you should be getting negative fame for that player's race imo. This would deter some who would like to travel to all the towns in Atys.

Lastly I sure hope that open pvp is not being considered before there is actually a valid reason. That is all the in game content for getting outposts, building outpots, guild missions and such are put in place so there is actually a point to it instead of opening up players to annoying pkers.

I also agree with fuzz for the most part; however, I would take it a bit further to say something about the direction pvp is taking in this game. It will not be any of the extremes that have already been braught up in this thread. SoR is most likely to go the middle road on PvP and patch 2 contains the basics for this. Consent only pvp or duels in most zones and open pvp in others, including potential for guild/faction controlled zones later ( all presumption on the last one ;) How is this the middle road .?. it gives the player maximum choice and a, also by choice, risk / reward incentive should one choose to enter certain zones or associate within a guild / group. The player who exists purely to grind and not associate with anyone else in game -- is a very small minority. This PvP setup should be do-able by the rest of us.

Speaking mostly for myself, I like ... no scratch that, need a game that at least occasionaly makes my heart flutter once a in a while. We need PvP of some sort! For a slightly more tension filled playing experience all we have to do now is head on down to PR :) Or, we can stay within a more relaxed PvE area anywhere within the four lands. It's still choice. Enjoy your freedom to choose.
