Also, you are looking at the things from the wrong angle. The changes annoy so many highlvl harvesters BECAUSE they are high-lvl. Because they are used to this. It is not "harvesting", which becomes impossible, but "harvesting as we know it".
A new player who joins after the patch and starts to harvest will voice only very few of the complaints, since he only knows the current situation.

A lot of you keep pointing at the high level people saying that they leveled too fast etc. and that's why they're made about this because it's going to slow them down. Well, I don't think they levelled too fast because there was something wrong with the game. I think they levelled too fast because they spent too much of their personal time playing this game and doing the completely assanine thing we call foraging. They didn't find some magical exploit that rocketed them through 20 levels a minute. They have spent a LOT of time, I mean a LOT doing the same tedious task over and over and over and over again. That's there choice, more power to them. But don't make this process complete PITA for those of us that don't make that same choice. I know of one forager that spent 20 hours straight in one spot harvesting mats. Should she be high level? Definitely! If I played that meniacally and wasn't I'd be pissed. I can't even stay awake for 20 hours straight, let alone play a 'game' doing an insanely repetitive task. Just because these people are insane about what they choose to do, don't discount their points because they ARE valid.
Now yy48n19, just because it's a MMOG doesn't mean you should have to do EVERYTHING with a group. Having both solo activities and group activities are important. And I'm saying this from the perspective of a shaman who CANNOT in any way shape or form get there solo. I only play online games because I like interacting with people. But I also spend some time in the game foraging, and I enjoy doing that alone. Basically when I log on I check my group of friends for any hunting or guild activities going on. If nothing is or it doesn't interest me, then I go forage/craft. If you want forced grouping for all activites check out EQ2, I hear they do that magnificently.
And Shrike, yeah, it's possible for me to solo a Zoann too (I'm very low level fight) but that doesn't make it worth doing. I think if I were to start playing this game on thursday I'd take a look at how foraging is done and say 'forget it, too much work for too little payout'. And that's precisely the reason I quit SWG. Too much work. Too little payout.

^^^^^^^^^^ bogus, and totally besides the point.
Harvesting as it is is a very dull necessity in order to craft items. The changes annoy high level harvesters the most because they realize it is the most boring thing in the world and something you primarily just want to get over and done with. Pulling out my toenails is more entertaining.
The complaint the crafter population had was that harvesting was NOT EFFECTIVE enough. The was no increase in amounts of mats you could pull between lvl 150 and 220, the levels are useless, the only good thing about them was HP you could use for fight.
That complaint got totally ignored, rather they decided to cover their lack of high level content with making it EVEN MORE TEDIOUS.
Sure, new players wont notice. They will either quit way before then because they'll never make it to higher levels or they will get lucky and by the time they do there might actually be some content in the game.

One of the reasons I added the welcome and nice changes with the things I found poorly done was to show there is progress. I fear we did one step forward and two back in some areas as well.

Not that it means anything, but I've been following this game for the better part of a year, I pre-ordered my copy, and I've been playing since launch. I would've joined the beta, but I'm unfortunately restricted to dialup and betas are not dialup-friendly. When I've posted on the forums, I've been an ardent supporter of this game. All of that said, this patch is a subscription killer for me. I see an enormous amount of potential in this game. I saw an enormous amount of potential in SWG. A year waiting for that potential turned out to be a year wasted, and I'm not going to make the same mistake again. I've cancelled my subscription, though I'll continue to play until my time runs out. That gives Nevrax a month to reconsider and alter the philosophy behind some of the changes in this patch; I feel that is sufficient time. Should it come time to leave, I'll not make any melodramatic, self-serving goodbye posts. I'll just take my money and go. Greater mob difficulty (I was already having difficulty with things my level) and increased harvesting tedium are not fun, and fun is what I pay for. When the fun leaves, I leave with it.
This is not a "do things my way or I'll leave!" post, though it has some things in common with such posts. This is a "I'm very concerned about a game I care very deeply for" post, and that concern extends all the way to my billing statement. It's a very subtle distinction, but it's there. I've greatly enjoyed my time in this game. I've greatly enjoyed the intricate skill system and all the freedom it has allowed me. I've greatly enjoyed the unique feel this game had to it. I will not enjoy feeling like I'm grinding unpleasant activities. I will not enjoy remembering a time when such was not the case. I do not want to see this game die, but I simply cannot bring myself to just close my eyes and pretend it's not happening. I urge the folks at Nevrax to rethink this move. If that's not possible, I'll wish them the very best; this game was very brave and very original, and it will continue to be those things; from this point forward, however, it just won't be any fun.

I think I'll like it just fine, I just won't be a forager anymore.
