Do it then sweetie...your challenge for today...google him...wiki him...whatever it takes. If you want help writing the email let me know...like I say I am good at looking pathetic and needy

Hm, just for the record -- about the encouraging third parties to be interested in buying -- best chance game has for being purchased is if it is widely advertised that it is for sale. However, free Ryzom people are kinda hoping that this -won't- happen. Because they want to make a decent bid, and if someone more respectable looking (an established company) like Gameforge comes along...free ryzom folks prolly got no chance. So, before you go letting everyone know -- keep that in mind

p.s. This is not 'inside' knowledge -- it is on the free Ryzom forum, link posted by Final I think, someplace else (possibly announcement thread).

I'd rather a proper company bought it tbh,
"free" ryzom is a sucky idea

why is that? Ryzom going Gpl guarantees its development as long as someone cares.
btw the last proper company was gameforge.

It is pretty easy to give up on a game you can no longer play due to ping of between 1k-3k and being unable to get 100m in 20 minutes. I still log in to the game (glorified chatroom at the moment) but only in the hope that something will be done to correct the game.
The people who should be doing something about the lag are the liquidators. There best hope of getting someone to buy the game is to make the current players stay until the end and show the game does have a strong following. Driving players away by leaving the game unplayable makes the game less desirable to any future purchaser who may read these forums to get an opinion of what they may be interested in buying.
As a liquidator you want to get the most money back from this company you can. I can't see how making the game less desirable helps you with this.

We don't want to quit, for sure, but having now something different from last year bankrupcy: the game is unplayable, it's equivalent to a turn off of the servers.
The problem today is that *devs* and *people from Free Ryzom* now don't want any Hype from the players as happened last years....
I don't think it's impossible or illegal to reboot servers, they just don't want to.
They don't want another company go buying the game.
You understand why.

if the ryzom ip was part of the bankruptcy they dont have a choice, unless GF germany wants to bid for it. once bankruptcy is declared the ryzom ip goes to the highest bidder.

I am not against the Free Ryzom Campaign, tho I don't believe it can be much more of having some different Ryzom servers maintained by volunteer players, with no way to have the big improvement RYzom need. It can work, but just to have a static Atys (or a couple of static regions, that can fit in a single server), and this can satisfy some people. I can be wrong ofc and possibly FRC can bring Ryzom to new life, but I'm not sure they really know how much expensive it is.
About my statement on the fact that they don't want an hype from the players (and another Company to bid for Ryzom), I have just read their forum and reported what they have said there.

I have far too much digging left to do to give up.
Discovered the ring scenarios yesterday, I think everyone should look into it. It's a very complete, and creative tool. That we should all have the opportunity to look into it during these three weeks, before the servers come back up and Ryzom lives again fully, might actually be a blessing for the community's creativity.

actually it'd be about the same, you'd pay a monthly fee for bandwidth / servers / admin time .
the major difference is anyone can contribute to furthering ryzom. right now only GF can, but imagine if Xtarsia and the others working on the game could make new content and put it out their to be used.
if the game becomes GPL'd anyone can run a server, or make changes on the game. popularity of servers comes down to competence then as there isnt a monopoly anymore.
