Just saying... Mages aren't supposed to go solo! You can if you are good, but it's not really right.. It doesen't fit the mage profile :) Don't say its hard to find a fighter that can "tank" for you, there are loads of them :D

And i disagree with that the mage should not have the abilty to solo. In that case the melee should not have the ability to group. If one class can solo well and another can not, it is unfair IMHO.

By balancing the character, both 'classes' can solo equally well, I'd have said. Remaining 'purist' then there are difference, but the purists are compounding the problem.

So what is wrong with balancing from a purist perspective too? Why should one class have an advantage over the other from a purist perspective?

Hey...as level 60 in defensive casting.....I can paralyze a fearsome ocyx for several minutes before my sap runs out. PARALYZE! .....a bunch of fighters could punch it to death in that time. Mages are priceless and fighters are just a meatshield keeping the monsters away from these priceless tools of destruction and ressurection.

Maybe you should point out that if a Mob sneezes in a Mages's direction he needs a Res ;)

Im 86 Melee/60 Off mage/40 Def mage, and even when tanking i spend half my time ressurecting mages ;-)

Nirvy, If you are tanking and the mages are getting hit you need to consider one of the following...

1. Taunt - to keep the aggro
2. Get the mages to stand futher away
3. be more selective about the number of mobs you fight at once

The main tank in a group should hold the aggro at all times, it the role of the main tank :)

When I am tanking for a group, I like to keep the aggro because I get the benefit of the lower cost attack after parry stanzas

Just some suggestions of a low level tank :D

Then consider yourself a tank not doing his/her job.. :P

If you pull more than one mob and dont keep all of their attention they will go for the healers. Circular attack works nice to keep their attention if you're a tank/mage duo as long as the mage has stamina gift.

When we fight in large groups nowdays and we accidently get more than one mob we casters try to blind, root or stun all of them and let the fighters concentrate on one at a time. :)

Well Mobs always tend to go after the healers, even if they are the fulll 40m behind.

Mobs have a nasty habit of spawning on top of you, and they aren't all nice enough to aggro me, one or two hits and the mage is dead.

The aggro range od some lvl 100+ mobs is wickedly high, the fighter role already has to be constantly aware of everything around him, his 8 team mates and constantly checking everyones health to make sure they are okay.

To be honest a Pure mage is often a liability until they reach those higher levels, ther is nothing a tank can do to stop spawns landing on your head, and when some mages are one hit killed, even taunt isnt fast enough sometimes.

Thanks for your advice on tanking :P im aware of it however ;-)
