Newbie recruiting

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Would you like newbies not to be able to join a guild for an ammount of time?

However, I do think they should remove the ability to guild invite players who are STILL on the training island. I've already caught some players coming to the mainland to Yrkanis for the first time, with Kami guild tags. They said they didn't know anything about it except got an invitation out of nowhere on the training island so accepted.

I admit the command to guildinvite from a distance has come in handy- but it may be better to remove it so players actually have to meet people from the guild before they're sniped....
I can understand that. When my usual MMORPG home server is having issues (or I want to escape being seeing by those who know me!), I start up a new character. Depending on the server, my little level 1 paladin can get guild invites out of nowhere. I don't understand that. They don't know me. For all they know, I can be a complete jerk. And I don't know them.

Anyone who joins a guild, whether or newb or veteran, should take the time to get to know some people in the guild before joining.

That's the last thing i wanted to hear... newbies comming from island already guilded!! If that's true, it should be removed at once, imho...

Anyway, I see i may be wrong for the reasons you all exposed here, and i agree on them, but that will keep guilds doing such nasty tactics.

IMO, there's 2 reasonable uses of the remote guild invite to a person on the island:

1. I had this happen once - a member in my guild has a friend start playing and that friend knew they wanted to be in the same guild as his friend. So I threw him a remote invite while he was still on the island. That gave him the sense of family even sooner than if we'd waited (and, yes, I did double check with him in a tell before doing that because I didn't want the invite to pop from nowhere)

2. If you have a nooby alt like Ali mentions and someone asks about guilds and you get a chance to intro them to what your guild is like at that time, why not invite them? True, they didn't get a chance to be invited by any other guild, but how people really go about auditioning multiple guilds even on the mainland?

To my mind, guilds that invite too quickly without at least chatting up the new player are just going to lose them fairly quickly anyway (high odds) since they maybe don't fit in the culture of that guild. In other words, they hurt themselves in the long run.

you Kami's get to Pyr more often then (from Dyron ;-)

j/k, but we all here to help. Kami or Kara, does not matter.

i'ts lonely (and boring) without guild... especially for new ppl.

The main selling point of this game is the community. What you are proposing hides some of this great asset away from new players. New players should be able to join a guild whenever they want. Not before, and not after.

My view is that the Guild Invites system should be scrapped, and replaced with a "guild membership request" system instead... where it is initiated by the joinee. Still need to be authorised by a Guild officer, and still able to be misused by people 'coaching' noobs through the process - but less vulnerable to casual abuse.

I help out new arrivals, with advice, gear, and physical help, but do not actively recruit for my guild as such. If the newbs havent got their inscreen displays set up, they probably dont even know which guild Im in ;)

One drawback to the current environment.. already mentioned, is the silence on region chat. Low level chars arent getting to meet people near their own levels because they get swallowed by the guilds and spoilt rotten :p

things were different when i were a lad, we had to walk uphill to school, both ways, through the snow...

15 miles both ways ? same here!!! I voted a few weeks lol but i dont think that i kinda hit the wrong button *coughs* I didnt join a guild till after my trial period ...wich at that time was 14 days ..and then i had 2 invites in 3 min then another about 10 min after that ..i joined the third ..but only ever saw one person "Adelpha" wich was th H.O. of it ..(she is in Order of the nameless now) ..so I left when I met an officer of a guild called "Atys paladins" I joined up and the rest is hitory I Love being in my guild its the only reason I played as long as I have...
