Meh, it's no fun to just find how Atys can't work, and leave it at that. The fun part of science fiction is to first identify what doesn't work, and why, and then come up with (possibly and probably nonsensical) ways in which it could still work :p

On Earth too, there were chimneys and even fireplaces made out of wood in former times. It all depends on the right technique, I guess...

Even if the planet's creation was started by the Karavan, that doesn't mean you have to become their slaves. Just stay friends with the Kami, they were born on the planet just like you! :D

oh, and here's that part of the interview for those who don't have time to watch it:
It's in the far future, 30000 years. We have four civilisations, they're all human, but their DNA has been changed, by the planet that they're living on. We'll get into it a little bit. Ryzom itself, the planet is, actually, has been terraformed, but got out of control. So, the DNA bombs that were dropped to terraform the world, have actually grown up this huge planet that has layer upon layer upon layer of new plants.

Just think about what will happen to all that fine, desiccated wood dust, when some Fyros hero lets his flaming retch axe or stavonus sword rest on the ground ? never mind the launchers, flame spells or kipesta and ocyx breaths.
2435 : The Fire of Coriolis
In 2435,under the Emperor Abylus the Learned, Fyros miners hit upon a vein of acid which set light to the surrounding parched wastelands. The fire quickly spread across homin territories ravaging the town of Coriolisand blazing a trail as far as the great forests of the Matis.

stuff like that happens all the time :D

Apparently Atys does have minerals...

Nomadic desert tribes first established their stronghold to the north of the forest lands around the oasis of Fyre. The first great Fyros Empire was founded in 2275 by the remarkable warrior, Dyros the Great. He led campaigns to secure mineral resources throughout the desert areas and established a route through Matis dominions to Tryker lake lands to set up a water supply for the expanding population.

Gods...we have some extraordinarily intelligent members within our community. It's what sets us aside and apart from our contemporaries. This is a community of bright, intelligent, original, smart, alert, forward-thinking, investigative, open-minded Homins, and their passion, research and inquisitive nature leaves me dumbfounded. What an extraordinary thread this has turned out to be. You guys truely rock :)
