I agree that it should not be retroactive.

Which is how the author (Lathan) intended it to be taken rather than the misinterpretation which resulted in Lath's banning.

I must say that I still fail to see any personal attack or ranting contained therein. The only person directly named in the post is GrimJim who was certainly not being attacked.

I know that I am now a more cynical person than I was before.

In the context of the forums as they were at the time (very loosely moderated), someone's posts may have been fine and in line with the norm at the time. If you try to retroactively apply a stricter criteria, then many people could be candidates for suspension, even if they more closely adhere to the new rules going forward.

Now that everyone knows that things are stricter, I feel you should basically make a clean break and only consider posts since the announcement when passing judgement.
I want to add my voice to the "DONT BE RETROACTIVE" group.

To apply your current interpretation and practice to posts made under very different circumstances is greatly unfair. You may say that the rules were always there, and so you are justified in applying them retroactively, BUT:

Rules never applied within a community sets a very real precedent that those rules are not real. You allowed a set of patterns for relating to evolve and be owned by everyone. To simply change your enforcement and to hold past accepted behavior against people is a breach of the COMMUNITY, even if not the LEGALITY.

Please respect the Community above all else. Else you reap the consequences.

Thanks for listening,

well there are unsaid rules to just about any forum's etiquette, and generally rudness is considered bad. It IS rude to constantly yell and grieve folks about things.

So past posts can be considered for certain things, but i think too that Nevrax should alow a certain amount of discontent from its players if thats how they feel. Its healthy to express and can even help the creativity of the game. And I'm not sure i agree with the strict definition of a troll as Xavier has it... but thats up to him.
