I don't usually post in these forums, as my home is on "The Saga" boards. I would like to invite you to check those out though. http://www.ryzom.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=37 There's 3 pages of topics about the various player and GM run events that have taken place over the past couple of months. This board will also give you updates on what is to come. I'm sorry if you've missed all of the GM run events so far, but keep an eye out here, and plan ahead we usually give a little warning. We look forward to seeing you on Atys!

I'm glad you posted that link and brought that to the thread because it helps illustrate exactly what I am taking about. In that thread there are 69 topics posted since the first of October. How many of them involved something relating to the story? How many of those events had an effect on the game world? In how many of those events did the outcome make any difference whatsoever? How many of them had a GM play the part of a NPC to bring the story to life? How many of them weren't planned and actually suprised players? How many of them were setup to get players more involved in the story?

I agree with Raynes to an extent. I also give omission to the holiday season. I've been busy myself so I just anticipate the event more. I'm also aware that with Patch 2 things are problably a little crazy behind the scenes.

Raynes brought up a good point, and though I can't find the interviews anymore I feel a little bit cheated. I'm pretty sure that it was mentioned that mobs would have 'reinforcements' arrive or that npcs would gather up. The only thing I've experienced from this elusive 'RAID' engine aside from watching carnis and herbis interact is that Zora Kovans have a tremendous add radius. They don't even have an audible cry you can hear from your speakers. Increasing the add range isn't what I was expecting at all. The najab camping etc without increasing difficulty is just what other MMO's out there are offering. The only difference is we level faster because we have so many more levels and increments in skills. It's still a grind, and it's not giving what Plarf and I discussed would be quite possible the most phenominal thing an MMO has come out with. Instead it looks like Wish might beat Nevrax to it...of course that's in their faqs too so who knows if they can be trusted either.

I agree with you, josephm. Reinforcements and scouting parties were certainly mentioned, very prominently so in advertisements for the game in major PC gaming magazines. The whole idea of a dynamic world, with a raging battle, a front line, raiding parties, ambushes, etc....ah it gets the juices flowing. But it's nowhere to be seen. And I'm not talking here about some non-spontaneous event that occurs once a week at a previously announced time and place; where on Atys is the excitement or realism in that???

Wish certainly emphasizes this aspect of their game. It's hard to see how they can't deliver to some extent, because given how much they've played it up, they'd appear to be bald-faced liars. I hope Wish doesn't beat Nevrax to the punch also, because there's a lot about SoR that I like, and I'm becoming fond of my main toon.

oddie wrote:I have to say I agree with your point raynes. I have been busy leveling and so am not quite as effected as some other players.

The reason I agree is because there are many players absent and I wonder if this is the reason, at least in part?

zzie, gfunk, to name a couple of the more prominate faces are gone.
Just as an FYI, I saw Gfunk just yesterday in the Zora lands specifically in the Haven area. I would guess it is the holidays that may have caused some of the change in frequency of people being on-line at usual times. Just my opinion though. Happy New Year!

Thanks bandwgn, it is good to know that he is still around.

I guess I have a huge amount of patience for waiting but ive been playing mmos for as long as I can remeber and ryzom has the least amount of problems compared to some I have played that I dont care to revisit, starwars being one of them. I know that if this game doesnt give me what im looking for there are always others on there way out to try. I agree with both you and Raynes on this one.
