You can sometimes use the terrain to lose your attackers as well, mainly in the Zoraî lands, but it's very difficult to do.

ALOT of the run away has to do with connection as well, right now my ISP bites harshly (my connection is up and down more than the Flag on an Army base!) and running is simply NOT an option for me.

But then the death penalty is NOTHING like other games (lineage 2 you actually could drop weapons and armor that took you months...no exageration here...to get the game cash for, and in Eq one death could put you back a week or more of four to 8 hour grinding), so if I die and have to spend a few minutes getting the debt paid off, it is not that big a deal.

I WOULD like to see a travel system that lets you move from town to town withtout the long runs, OR a way to speed up. Sometimes you just don't want to have to run the whole way across Tyker lands.

Actually, there is a "Speed Up" stanza to learn! It comes with crafting. There are two steps of it i saw up to now: Step 1 lets you run twice the normal speed for 10s with a downtime penalty of 900s. The next lvl of that stanza comes with lvl 50 in crafting and lets you run for 15s with a downtime of 840s! So it get´s better and better! You will outrun any Gingo with it! It´s great. I use it a lot.
And other possibilities of avoiding damage are the "Invulnerability" stanza and an aura, i forgot the name of.
Just look again, what your teachers got to teach you and you will find interesting things. :)

I like the idea of re-enabling height speeds ... :D

I'm bumping the thread here because I'd like an answer too whether using terrain is considered smart tactic or exploit.

In Tryker land we sometimes have 2 islands close together, however the islands are separated by deep water so that mobs cannot cross from one island to the other one. Today I noticed an island with a bunch of aggressive cloppers on one island, a bunch of non-agressive mobs on the other.

I could swim to the clopper island, just get onto land and get aggro from a few cloppers and then swim to the island with the non agressive-mob and get on land there and would be able to nuke the cloppers on the other island that followed me to the shore from that perfectly safe point. Smart tactic or exploit?

I have noticed similar islands but usually it has shallow water. While cloppers can't cross deep water, they are able to walk across shallow water. I think when mounts come it will solve some of the travel time problems.

I believe what you are asking larsa is summed up best by a few words:

Exploit no ... using Tactical Terrain Advantage yes.

This is used in 'real life' as well. Higher ground, sniping from the shadows. if you are not using the enviroment you are in than you are wasting 75% of your resources available.

Obviously you most weigh this into the realm of exploit or not. But in the case of the cloppers .. they follow you, you have the range, they die. If it is considered an exploit. It will be fixed and the cloppers will swim after you !!!

Now, those roving bands of pirates. Yeah. They can swim. Well. Don't ask how I know. I don't want to talk about it.[/QUOTE]

Ok, I can see the retreat thing into water being iffie but think about being a tryker and being on one of those tiny isles with a load of crabs. If you need to run, where ya goin to go? I mean you can run the other way on land so on an ise what option do you have?
