You also need to remember that the SiS740 is a rather outdated graphics card - there could well be limitations or problems with the old hardware itself, since you mentioned similar problems with other games. The 740 was a good built-in card in it's day, but I wouldn't expect one to handle Ryzom to be honest!
Ryzom will also use more modern graphics routines and techniques, and it could be these techniques aren't handled too well by the SiS hardware.

Too bad there seems to be no improvment
The thing that upsets me though is that i had the exact same problem with Horizons, but all the info on that is gone from the web (with fan-sites closed and all...)
Well, guess it will have to be a new system....
Thx for all the help though, excellent feedback from the community!

SIS Graphics are suckedup. I have one too: White Chars and stuff....
Problem Solution: Use very old driver!!!!!! The newer ones are for nothing than posing. Use a driver from 2002. Or if nothing works: Univga3.63 on SIS.com
Good Luck and sorry for my English- I am German

Hi, sure: the old one is 2.07b and was on my systemutility CD i got with the laptop. but you can surely search it on google. or i send it to you by packet...It can be downloaded perhaps on gericoms ftp page
http://www.gericom.com and click through. The UniVGA 3.63 can be downloaded on
http://www.sis.com and i think driverhaven.net
Good luck
PS: best to overclock a SIS Chipset is Powerstrip and - dont laugh - put an Icepack, like for headache under it... but be sure it is not wet

Try finding a client that is named ryzom_recover.exe that resides inside the Ryzom folder. It will make you download the latest patches which might have been corrupted byt the patching, happened to e too, but now all run fine. I run the game both in a 512 RAM config and 1gig, in the 512 config disable all allocation (or most of it) from the RAM that goes to the graphic card and disable all Windows XP desktop effects and ( the ones that when disable make it appear like windows 98 or smthing) u free up at least 100k of RAM this way. last but not least open Ryzom client_default.cfg config and put all non unneeded effects to 0, but you should keep a backup with the new client config you just made so every time you launch the game it when you are on the accept / decline screen restore your version of the client and then proceed accepting the game to continue, caus eit done differently Ryzom forces its own configs. Disable anythink that might be getting those textures fatter and more ram hungry like Antializing, Vertex shadering, Pixel shadering, and keep bump mapping somehow low. Game should run fine.
